So I'm trying to install my new isc top hats on my tein basics and there is a little over an inch of play between the lower top hat stop on the shock shaft and the retaining nut. What the heck? Please refer to the picture.
![]() The guys at isc were no help as they very hastily told me to look on the website. Which says drop the top hat on the shock then install the rubber bushing washer and retaining nut. I would think in this condition they would move up and down on the shaft with all that play. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also how much should I trim the bump stops? |

call them again?
I personally didn't install these on my car, but I've seen other sets forsale used. And they all had those spacers included with the actual tophat |

According to this: http://www.iscracing.net/tophatinst.html
There should be no spacer, I'm wondering if this is something folks have done to install these on other things... |

they're not made to fit the Teins specifically. On Konis, you have to drill out the hole to fit the larger shaft. For Teins, you need a spacer.

I don't think there should be a spacer, the further that shaft is pulled up, the less stroke you are allowing yourself.
I have these hats on the rear of my car on basics, and they look nothing like that picture with the spacer. Me thinks that guy was slightly retarded. That car probably had zero suspension droop. Mine is pretty shit even without the spacer. |

Only thing I could think is the rear is way different than the front. But the NB tophats I have upfront don't pull the shaft that high either.
The spacer + the extended tophat that coilovers shaft is being pulled up like 4". That is insane. |

Weird, I didn't install my top hats, bought the coils used. Mine look nothing like those pictures lol. All I know is the amount my suspension will droop is very limited, even without the shaft being pulled up so high and my car is too low for my tastes. Maybe the PO of my coils did something dumb, who knows.

Maybe take a trip to the hardware store, I'll go measure mine in a little while and let you know how tall of a spacer to get.

OK cool, what are you guys doing for bump stops? The tein bumps seem to be a bit short and look like the upper control arms will smack the frame before the bump stop makes contact. I don't have a lot of options at this point as the car is in the air with no suspension under it and with it being xmas alternatives are going to be difficult to find.

Use the Tein supplied ones, they work fine. FWIW: you'll have more travel without the spacer. |

^^^you sure?
You bought ISC top hats. They are made for NA Bilsteins. You're putting them on Teins and wonder why they don't fit right. And you're confused there are no instructions for the wrong application. Get creative. |

Oh they are already in the car, I was referring to the laughs on the picture. I used a spacer which worked great, however I didn't put it in the order the other guy had it... |
