I wanted to share my experience with SparkTec Motorsports, an aftermarket parts vendor with an online presence and an Ebay presence. I believe they are based in California, so many of you may have heard of them.

They advertise Ground Control Coilovers on their Ebay store for $359.10. The following is from their original posting for a 99-05 miata:

Springs: We are pleased to announce that Eibach has chosen Ground Control as the west coast distributor for their ERS (Eibach Race Spring) line of springs. All of our ride height adjustable kits now exclusively feature Eibach springs. All racing and street/show spring rates are available. All Eibach springs offer a lifetime warranty against spring rate change and sagging.

After contacting the vendor to ask how I can purchase these with the race springs I want, I was told "We only have the stock spring rates right now." In their ad, they also state that all products are guaranteed to be in stock and ready to ship, or they will pay the buyer $25.00.

You may notice that the verbiage of their product description is identical to that of the GC website, excluding the in-stock portion. They are also less expensive that Ground Control, so I was excited to do business with them. They have repeatedly refused to sell me what they listed, including stating that I didn't read the ad several times. I've asked several times "How do I order these with a 700 lbs front and a 400 lbs rear spring, and James Kang has stated repeatedly that the ad does not state this. I can only guess that English is not his native language. After many frustrating days requesting that they honor the price, he has refused.

I have documented my conversations as well as filed a complaint with the BBB for false advertising, but thought I'd help the community out.

doubt it, considering this is a miata forum after all. I mean anyone with common sense would know that ebay is a hit or miss and to try and fight one of the vendors is pretty much wasting your time, let alone for a measly $25 dollars. To make matters worse, the BBB is a complete joke.

What's with all the eBay haters? I have bought off eBay for over 10 years w/171 purchases and fewer problems than I have fingers on one hand. You buy from someone with less than 90+% positive feedback and at least several hundred transactions then you should be good to go. This biggest problem with eBay is idiot consumers that believe anything and then get all upset when the package doesn't contain all the "hopes and dreams" they were "promised". So the two keys from buying from eBay is no different than buying from anyone else and is as follows:
1)Buy from a reputable seller.(means very high positive feedback and plenty of transactions)
2)Buy quality parts and you wont be disappointed or buy questionable partsand prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

No one is saying ebay is bad, but usually the ones that do complain are cheap bastards. I've used ebay all the time, however, the ones that give ebay a bad reputation are the cheap buyer looking to buy a $300 turbo kit and the sellers advertising them knowing fully that it is complete garbage.

My sister bought me a Turbosmart manual boost controller from Sparktec. It worked great for about 3 months and then it started over boosting my motor. It would run 10 psi no matter what I set it to. I got in touch with Turbosmart and they told me that they would only warranty the controller if I send it back to the vendor and they send it to turbosmart. Don't ask me why but that is their policy but it is. So I sent the controller to Sparktec. Then 1 month goes by I email Sparktec back and forth to find out what is going on they tell me that Turbosmart has my controller. Month two rolls around and they claim that Turbosmart has my controller I give Turbosmart a call and they tell me they never received anything. Needless to say I wanted to know where the heck my controller went to. Long story short my sister had to get her money back through Amazon. I would not ever use Sparktec Motorsports for anything. On another note my sister ended up getting me a Hallman MBC which has worked way better and you can adjust the boost far more accurately.

Horrible company that does not honor refunds
Had to file a complaint with Better Business Bureau in California
