OK so after a ton of BS with waiting and runaround antics(been trying to get a set since march) I finally got the memoryfab "super low rails"
Unfortunately this review isn't too favorable on this combo
First off I have a long torso compared to my legs for my height (5' 10") so this is a problem with most seats in a miata with a hardtop. on the stock seat I have maybe 1-1.5" before my head touches the hardtop
I bought them because I was told by Rich (one of the guy's who works there) they'd go at least 1 full inch lower than the stock leather seats which would be just enough clearance for a helmet.
First thing I noticed using their seat with their rails you can't even mount them, on the lowest setting in the front WTF?!?! had to mod the front brackets by cutting about 3/4" off (under the advisemnet from rich) so it would clear the mold of the seat. finally able to mount them at the lowest slots front and rear. next issue the rear slots are angled so you can get some height adjustment bad news due to the reclining mechanism it bumps the bottom of the seat before you can tighten ththe inside rail all the way down. few passes with the grinder and everything once again was cherry
everything from here on out went fairly smooth. all 4 holes liuned up with the holes on the floor perfectly(something that didn't happen when I tried bride rails)slid the seat back to where I could sit in it only to be dissapointed, it's MAYBE 1/4-1/2" lower than stock
called up pissed because after all that I still need either different rails or remove the hardtop when I need to wear a helmet. of course rich was "out of the office" and David (another guy that works there) says plainly "wel;l if they don't go as low as you wan you shouldn't have modded them" WTF?!?! Rich told me too! after a long argument I was basically told to deal with it and hung up
Overall quality of the rails is maybe an 8/10 or so, painted instead of powdercoated but welds are good and these are very sturdy
fitment to car 10/10 went in perfect once everything was mounted
streetability 7/10 seats not very padded but does hold you snug I just wou;dn't reccomend long freeway trips in it
height compared to stock 4/10 I was lead to believe by rich that this setup would be at least an inch lower than stock and practically equivilent to being bolted to the floor....not the case at only 1/2" max lower than stock........while the seat is straight on the lowest setings possible(2 notches up front and rear)....I was finally able to get the head clearance I wanted but at the cost of reclining the seat(front notches on the 3rd level rear notches on the 1st level) which is not really the way I wanted things to be done
EDIT: so after more run around from the guys at memory fab today I was told by a member on here that reclining the seat back (front higher, rear lower) might gain some clearance. it works but it seems kind of awkward driving (front bolts are iun the 3rd notch up rears are at the bottom) I gained an additional 1/2 " or so further (getting what should be enough clearance for a helmet) but not the way I was led to believe.
overall I'd say I'm barely satisfied but satisfied enough not to get rid of it. the meaning of this review is not to bash memoryfab as one person in a PM told me I was doing but to inform people in a semi-neutral way about every aspect(good or bad) about the rils mixed with their seat....isn't that the purpose of a true review, not to bash and not to nutswing but be as neutral as possible.
As far as customer service I'd give memory fab a 5/10. I got the product, it's solidly made, was informed how to make it work so that it should be the height I want and was even upgraded to overnight shipping at no additional cost but I find it odd that when I needed/wanted to talk to Rich he was convieniently out of the office after the rails were recieved and I had questions/issues and it doesn't go nearly as low(while being straight vs. reclined) as I was lead to believe
overall that amounts to a 34 out of 50 based on 5 different aspects mainly due to failed anticipation/beliefs brought on by memory fab
