I've been smitten by the short Joyfast shift knob for a few months now. I finally contacted Rod and asked him to order me one. It came in the mail today. Oh man. It's SO perfect. It makes my old Voodoo feel so cheap. The short Joyfast is nearly 300 grams. It feels about 3x the weight of the Voodoo. I've become a convert to the Church of the Weighted Shifter.

Here are the photos.

Joyfast short shift knob. Not to be confuse with their two larger models: http://www.joyfast.com/product/interior/na2.html

This is Danbo. She'll be helping me in the lightbox today.

Standard Voodoo vs short Joyfast vs OEM Mazda NA.

And here's the Voodoo with the optional collar. It sits a bit taller with it.

The Joyfast in a stock interior (my wife's NB2),

The Joyfast in Sharka's interior with my Cobra replica shift ring. Looks right at home.

Rod threw in this Joyfast hand towel in the box. It was just the thing. Thanks!!!!

And that's pretty much it. Not a lot you can say about a shift knob. I could say more about Rod though. This was my first transaction with Tetsuya Garage. Totally awesome. I'll be spending a lot of money with Rod, I think. Thanks again for the great service!!!

and here's some outtakes...

Jun says "cheers!!!" Cause what's funnier than a bunny with a beer?

I caught Getter3 making faces in my old Voodoo.

Danbo loves the Joyfast.

It's not even in the same league as my old Voodoo that you asked me about. You totally should set your sights higher. THIS is something everyone deserves. As much as I like being the only guy with it right now, it's too sweet to keep to myself.

that is very dope.
What is the price range?
and I assume it WILL get hot in the summer, right?

I really like Danbo...I don't know where he's from, but whenever you post up pictures with him he looks like a really baller guy.
I KNEW the price would come up.... heh. It was $95 shipped from Rod. More than I've ever considered paying for a shift knob before. But damn is it nice. And it's solid stainless steel, so it'll get hot just like a Voodoo.

Me, too.

Nice shift knob, photos and review. I really look forward to all of your product reviews they're done so well.
Agreed.
Nice work Adam....again. :p
Thank you both!!!!!!!! I really get far too much enjoyment out of doing these. I mostly shoot my toys out in the world and not in my lightbox, so it's fun to use it again.

Weighted shifters are the only way to go mang!! I have a RS-Factory "Jimmy" and love it, feels perfect with the Mazdaspeed short shift kit. Weight is 390gram as measured on my postal scale.

Once you get with a heavy knob like this, you will never go back!

Nice choice Adam!! that knob looks way more comfortable than the ball type.

My Voodoo was a great upgrade from stock but the Joyfast looks so clean and comfortable.

The Nakajima Rod now carries is 425g. Is there a point when the weight gets too heavy É

That Nakajima IS sweet looking. I'm looking forward to someone reviewing it. Wish it could be me, but I've made my shift knob choice for a while. lol

As for the "can it be too heavy?" I think the answer is no. Too big and bulky? yes. I think the heavier it gets, the smoother and more buttery it would be. But too heavy might start to have synchro problems....

i had a weighted knob on my STi that was somewhere around 500 grams and wasn't too big or bulky, and definitely not a long throw, but i didn't like how it made the shifts feel.

i think 300-400 grams is probably the best range. i have an OEM mitsubishi weighted knob on the miata right now that weighs about 400gs, but is pretty big so it doesn't feel that heavy.. and i love it.

I miss out on all the fun stuff when I don't log on here everyday, I swear.

Knob looks awesome, pics were fun to go thru :D

Hot knobs eh? I haz the solution :) A local guy was making "shifties" for the SRT-4 crowd. I've got one, I haven't gotten a pic of it tho. Here's an example:

Anyways. I'd like to feel one of these before I plunk the $ down. Is there anyone in Ohio with a Joyfast knob?!?! lol :/

I looked into a Joyfast knob before I got my RE Amemiya knob, and while I loved that they were heavy and very ergonomic I felt that a bare metal knob in Florida would be less than smart. Now if Joyfast had their large knob with the same hard rubber covering that RE Amemiya has then I may have made a different choice.

Yay, I have officially joined the club of "owners of wonderful products from Rod," in particular the Joyfast Tall knob.

My very first impression of it was the weight; this thing is heavy!! But in a great way! It gives such a sense of control and that was just upon taking it out of the packaging!
The shifts really do feel smoother with it. (My previous knob was the Greddy/Trust one, which is claimed to be weighted, but it feels almost weightless after holding the Joyfast). I can only imagine what a stock knob would feel like now.

The sizing is perfect. It allows for a pistol grip with the height matching right up with the center console armrest, so your elbow never has to leave the comfort of the hard plastic.

Having the rounded top also makes holding it with the palm facing down feel just as comfortable. This was one of the reasons I considered getting the Voodoo, but not being able to use a pistol grip, steered me away.

These are the first pics I have of the knob (the lighting is a little misleading. It is very shiny and is much more chrome looking). I will take some of it installed when the moon isn't my only light source. :D
