I ended up ordering from another source since it ended up saving me 20 dollars shipped over 949 racings price. I felt bad to not support a sponsored vendor, but it was the difference of me not getting the clutch this month (you'll see why i needed it).
unboxed:
I haven't fully broke it in yet but the pedal feel is almost exactly the same effort of OEM, and the engagement is predictable and feels great (though i did come from a clutch that was totally effed)
For the $105 shipped i payed (or $117 from 949) it was totally worth it so far.
the company lists the capacity at: Horsepower Rating: 196 HP / Torque Capacity: 179 ft/lbs
where 949 lists it at: Torque capacity 1.6 /200: 170 ft-lbs
Either way its a good choice if you need a new clutch but plan on going low-med F/I down the road.
I'll give another update once it's broke in and I can really get on it.
Hope it works out. I've put several of their clutches in different Hondas and never seen any problems with them. I know Miatas are a slightly different ballgame but these tend to work out pretty good. Enjoy
if i had a torsen and the clutch was broke in id be enjoying the **** out of it today. its been raining off and on with a little hail(1/2in - golf ball sized) earlier today (first time ive seen hail since i moved to phoenix 3 years ago)
Still holding up fine (even with my mom and her weak feet driving it occasionally)
and i didnt drive it for 3 months cuz i was out of state but it has roughly 2k miles on it
adding my review of F1 clutch related crap to this review.
Got a stage 2 F1 clutch kit and a f1 flywheel bout 2 months back.
Been riding on it for bout that long now.. put roughly 20 miles on it a day.
No issues yet, and I do get on the thing semi hard.
Pilot bearing is fine. I put the bearing in the freezer and heated the flywheel slightly before pressing the two parts together.
One thing I noticed is that the PP might be the same as the stage 1. Looks exactly the same, and feels lighter than stock. Id say 40% lighter. But then again some time has passed since I felt the heavy stock PP.
just about done breaking in mine. i got it for 290 (after tax) picked up at gripforce with that 12 lbs flywheel. pretty satisfied with it as i was just looking for an OEM replacement and that **** was cheap. the pilot bearing is fine, the throwout bearing seems fine too but we'll find out. the pedal feel started off feeling very soft and felt pretty slippery, but after driving stop and go and avoiding freeways for the first 250 miles; the pedal feels just like the original and it grabs a little bit better... its no stage 3 so thats fine.
flywheel feels good, the engine is really responsive now... but that's common with every lightened flywheel.
things to point out:
I dont know if it was only from my 01 but it does not come with bolts and the ones from the original clutch are a different pitch thread. Had to leave the mechanic hanging while i left for an hour to pick up some grade 10 bolts to replace them. (cant really pick them up at autozone or home depot)
^ +1 still going good, no bearing issues here either.
I reused my fasteners.. I just cleaned em up, and put 1 drop of blue loctite on em and torqued to spec.
Out of all the clutch kits I ever ordered, none of em ever came with fasteners.
I just got my clutch redone because the release and pilot bearings were bad(a year & a half).DO NOT use cheap china bearing!
I went with the clutch kit from mazda $108+tax made by exedy.Comes with quality japan parts and bearings.
