First off, let me apologize for not taking any photos of the process. The day I changed it out, I had not planned to bring my camera with me.
This product review is for the Beatrush shifter collar for NA Miata's. Before I stopped driving my car 4 months ago, I felt that my shifter was pretty notchy. And it was becoming more and more difficult to get it into certain gears. When I put my car to rest, I bought the necessary items needed for the shifter rebuild from a Mazda dealer.
The quality of the Beatrush collar is very good. I give it a 10.
Again, I apologize for not taking any photos.
Both my upper and lower shifter boots were torn real bad. I had done some research earlier in the day on how to remove them off of the shifter easier. So that was cake once I got the shifter out. First thing I noticed when I cut the boots loose, the shifter was nasty looking. Surface rust and hardened gunk everywhere. I took a few steps to the trusty wire wheel, and started brushing away all the unwanted crap on the shifter and made it shiny again. From research, it seems people found that a turkey baster works best to remove the old gear oil out of the shifter turret, however you want to call it. I used an actual bleeder machine that hooks up to an air compressor. Make sure you wash it well afterward. After cleaning up the shifter, I started piecing back the new pieces to the shifter, inserted the Beatrush collar in place, and filled it with gear oil. I purchased Pennzoil Synchromesh to fill my tranny and shifter turret. Never tried it before, but heard good things about it.
Today, I finally drove my car for the first time in 4 months. The first thing I noticed beside the super stiff motor mounts, was the shifter feel. It felt so good. I was amazed at how big of a difference all those things made. The shifter collar, the boots, and fresh gear oil. I am very happy with the item and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new shifter collar. No more notchy shifts. Shifts very smooth.
