Red Line MT-90 Trans Fluid Install

I bought my 96 NA8 in early October and have been trying to go through things since I bought it to give me some piece of mind knowing the proper maintainance has been done when it comes to fluids.

I run Red Line two-stroke oil in my dirtbike, so I figured I would give their product a shot for my Miata as well. I assumed the diff and trans fluid probably hadn't been changed recently, so I stared there.

After doing a bit of research I decided to try the MT-90 for the transmission as it has a slightly higher viscosity than the MTL product and I thought that would be a little better for my high mileage (124,000) trans. Even though I live in SoCal, we still have some relatively cold mornings and I'd been feeling a bit of notchiness and resistance when trying to get my car into reverse and through the first 10 or 15 shifts on the way to work.

For anybody who has done this change yet, the NA requires between 1.8 -2.1 quarts so I figured it was a better idea to buy 3 bottes just in case and the awesome invention that you can buy at Autozone that helps pump the fluid out of the bottle along with about 3 feet of vaccuum hose to reach the trans from the top. This all made it a breeze.

So I removed the 24mm drain bolt and soon realized this was definitely a good idea (stuff in there was gross). Below are some photos of the pump and my setup for reference; this definitely made it a lot easier. Another friend never hurts either.

I pumped exactly two quarts into the trans and plugged it as soon as it overflowed. The minute I got in the car I noticed a huge difference in the way the car shifted. LIKE BUTTER. It felt just as good this morning leaving for work. I highly recommend the MT-90 for anybody looking to swap out their old skunky trans fluid.

pouring in from the top is so much easier! thats pretty much what i did to mine but i attached a funnel to the top of the hose and poured it in like that, i was too cheap to buy a pump. and ceejay, i recommend redline also. feels so much better, it might cost a little more but its well worth it. i think they're like 12 something each bottle
