Racing Beat CAI Review

I bought the Racing Beat Cold Air Intake kit for my 03 LS. I also bought the Shock Tower Brace Mounting Bracket and the Non-CF Intake Duct. I've read a lot of really solid reviews for this product and was nothing but excited for the install.

Boy was I disappointed. First of all the directions were incredibly confusing. The intake, duct, and brace all have separate sets of directions. You are forced to flip back and forth between them trying to keep the sequence right. I might suggest the opposite approach. Perhaps there could be only one set of instructions that is in an instinctive sequence and some people may have to omit certain sections.

This is 90% of a fantastic system. However the devil is in the details and these details are a godawful mess. The shock tower brace barely fits with the intake pipe, but it fits. However, the temperature sensor is in serious interference with the bracket. The shock tower brace hardware also interferes with the intake pipe. Last, the small bracket that attaches the metal pipe to the shock tower bracket area is utterly impossible to access with any wrench in the known universe if you install the duct as well.

The duct is a similar set of problems. I had to dremel portions of the duct to allow it to fit into my car. Even so, it is in a constant state of strain because the holes do not line up. There is also poor alignment with the cone filter. The filter is under constant tension and I fear that eventually it will pull right off. Oh, and the duct sits up too high and forces the hood to tilt up on one side. The hood adjustment procedure in the instructions is garbage and is not applicable in any sense. It is actually laughable if you look at it.

I must say I could actually tell a difference once I installed this system, but I have some concerns about it in the long term. It seems like a lot of other people are happy with it though, so maybe I'm just being picky. I really don't think so though. I was extremely careful to make sure I wasn't making some noob mistakes.

Anyone else have a similar problem with this intake?
