Bbs Rs1

hi guys,

The other day i stumbled into a shop that has an old stock of bbs rs1. It's a 3 piece rim, gold mesh, polished lip, 15x8, +18 offset, very light. I'm pretty sure this will really stick out requiring a flare. Just want to get opinions. Would you guys go for this wheel?

Sounds like a good find. If you can get them for a decent price then I'd go for it. Those would look sweet on my white 92. Where did you say that shop was? j/k

at +18 offset you might be able to get away with it if you roll the fenders. on an NA a +25 15x8 will fit and if it's an NB I've seen an NB running a zero offset and it didn't stick out noticably.

I think "djsqiigles" is running 195-45-15 on his 15x8's you might ask him the pros and cons of his size and if he can go wider and such?

I know that the stretched tires is JDM tyte, but I don't really understand it from a performance perspective.

My 15x8 +15mm offset wheels will run 225 series tires. Biggest contact patch and largest amount of rubber for the highest heat capacity...

This particular BBS wheel is very popular among VW enthusiasts. In fact, due to its 3-piece design, many people make them even wider with lower offsets using Kodiak shells. I don't know if I like them on a Miata but they look great on an A2 GTI. The RS1 are much stronger than the notoriously weak RM that came stock on some '91-'92 16Vs. In the USA a set of 4 RS1 in that size would cost $2,000+ in mint condition or about $1,400 in good condition. Good luck.

i don't think there is really a performance aspect besides the supposedly smoother break away for drifting purposes.

for looks, i think it looks not bad.

I think if you ran 225s on that wheel size and offset, wouldnt your fenders would be sitting on top of the tire pretty much, even if you rolled them? I guess if youre not slammed they would fit alright but if your as low as djsquigles I dont think that would work.

I have 225s on my 15x6.5 m edition wheels, which I think are 40 offset or something similar. Im low enough that the front tire is up inside the fender just very slightly, but just far enough away that it wont rub when im turning.

With the BBS RS size specifications you have listed, you can put them on the car if you roll the inner fender lips in the rear and push up the fender liner tabs in front using 195-50-15 or 195-45-15 tires. You can maybe push for a 205-40-15 (european size if can be found in Manila) You can also use a 205-50-15 if you are able to dial in more negative camber and make the aragosta's stiffer. I do prefer the look of stretched 195's imho.

BBS RS-1s are extinct in the U.S and as Freedomgli stated very HTF despite many cars in the 80's and early 90's sporting them.

The German and Swiss Roadster enthusiasts have been running stretched and oversized wheels for many years, similar to the the VW and Opel scene.

The most popular mesh wheel in Germany is actually the "Chevlon" wheel made in Japan............. The Swiss favoring the Work Rezax

yeah, a 15x8 +18 would fit awesome! I wouldn't recomend the 45 series tire though. I find the streched 45 to be too buzy(RPM higher then normal) on the freeway. Running at about 4100RPM at 80MPH. Those wheels are sick thought, I have always wanted some BBS. Must be the BMW fan in me.

Also a streched tire provides faster steering reaction as the sidewall flex is pretty much eliminated. Please do not crack jokes such as saying " JDM tyte" I find it offensive and we don't need culture slamming like that on this board.

Again thanks for the responses. Very helpful and informative, specially with the pics. Holger's rear wheel has the same specs as the set i saw so i think it'll fit just fine even without flares. The set i found is just an old stock, never used. Just have minimal stains on the lip, so polishing might be in order. I'll offer $800-900 for it, see what happens.

I've seen those wheels, almost bought them even but the problem I saw then was a performance tire that would match its' looks. They were meant for the Opels in the 80s thats how long the shop has had them. For looks nothing would beat that.
