The available course, a whole runway! The truck and trailer on the left of the picture are in the center of the runway. That's how wide this thing was!

Good post. The videos were fun to watch. Definitely need some more close-ups of the 510 project. We have one up here that is just perfection, love those cars.
Reminds me a lot of our local auto-x course. About a mile long and 1/4 mile in width. Definitely makes for some fun cone crushing. |

Because we get alot of first-timers at every single event. I don't really like it, I say make them figure it out on their own. A couple of the higher-up guys in the club, one of which was a national level driver, insists on it. It's just flour, so alot of it blows away by the end of the day. It just saves on DNFs, makes the day a little smoother. I don't even notice the lines I'm so focused on the cones.
Cherry Point is by far our biggest venue, 450 wide, 7000 feet long. Our courses are generally smaller and much more technical, some of them the lines are almost necessary we get so many cones out on such small lots. That course was pretty close to the 1993 Nationals layout. This was the first time we'd ever been there, so we had alot of first timers because we've never raced within an hour of there before. They want us to come back, soon! So hopefully that venue will become a permanent fixture on our schedule. |

All these pictures were taken by Jordan at National Speed in Wilmington.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That guy daily drives a 510 sedan, used to autocross a 240z (he still has it), started a 260z build this winter, and just finished the pictured 510 coupe (this was his first event in it). |

That course was fun. I can't believe how fast the times were. When we were all walking it we were figuring like 80 second course. Nope: 50's for most, low 50's, high 40's for the fast cars.
FTD was that STi I posted video of at like a 47.6. Next fastest was a second slower (yeah, that STi is THAT fast), with 4 or 5 more in the 49s. I was 17th overall (out of 81) with a 51.6. |
