Default vote for an off-topic section!

this thread made me think that if "general chat" must remain car related, then give us an off topic section. we could post the random non-car related stuff here (like hard-gay videos, funny pictures, weekend stories, etc). i think any car community needs more than cars to prosper.

i'm sure a lot of people will agree with me on this. if not, then... well... i dunno.

I voted no after much thought. We haven't needed one so far until the crackdown on the Mohawk thread.

Yes, an OT would be fun. With a slight relaxing of the rules, General could be that though. I haven't really missed not having an OT if that makes sense, plus I have like .... 3 or 4 other OT's i surf all day.

CSi:OT
NASIOC:OT
neons.orgits
S2ki:OT

etc, etc, etc.

Any forum worth it's salt has an OT section. Why is there even a debate?

I'd be into it as long as there are still guidelines. (unlike Supraforums OT)

But the real question is: Does the owner of the forum feel the same way. Because our opinions don't matter if they don't want one.

Just so you guys know- currently the forum still doesn't have sponsors yet. TIM IS PAYING FOR THE BANDWIDTH OUT OF THE KINDNESS OF HIS HEART. I don't know about you guys, but I would feel really bad if Tim has to pay just so you guys can chat about which hair gel to use on your hairdo.

So I say- open OT only after there are sponsors. Ideally only after we have sponsors specifically for the OT forum.

i originally started this thread just to see how many people would agree with a more leniant off topic section. i really wouldn't want anyone to have to redo the whole forum setup just to add another measly section. i think this just helps show everyone that we'd like to talk about more than cars. and maybe back off on the thread locking.

i was aware that there are no sponsors, and i'm sure we are all grateful of tim's kindness to keep this site up and going. i think we should have a section for donations, or just a sticky with instructions on how to donate.

i think if we can keep everyone happy, it will make for a sweet roadster community, which is a plus with m.net going down the drain so fast.

I appreciate everyone's interest in coming to this site every day and I appreciate the suggestions for what you would consider an ideal forum; a one-stop website, if you will.

I am in agreement that there may be a need for an off topic forum, since rules for the General Chat forum were never really laid out.

Whether I add an off topic forum or not, it is my sincere hope that members will have common sense when posting and keep things clean, non-racist, and (mostly) non-controversial. There will be a set of guidelines that members will be required to read before posting in the OT section.

As mentioned, right now I am paying for bandwidth out of my own pocket until I get the sponsorship set up (which will be soon). That said, one must remember that paying sponsors will not necessarily want to be associated with a forum if there are post that are laden with flippant use of profanity, excessive controversy, or racism.

I will discuss the possibility of an OT forum with the mods, but in the meantime, I am hoping that members will exercise good judgment and control when posting.

In addition, if you would like to donate to the running of this wonderful website, I will be setting up a Paypal donation screen soon.

Thanks for visiting CR.net!

i don't understand "mohawk" gets locked by a mod... and another gets locked... then another mod posts a different "non miata related post" and other mods reply.. i have nothing against anyone here. but everyone needs to be on the same page.. this is a great forum the only miata related forum i goto.. but i see things like this? are all the mods on the same page?? one says no more retarted posts and then there are non-roadster(retarted posts) posted by mods? dont wanna start a stink but..... just my 2 cents.. can we post retarted in gen chat or no

also mods get to reply in classifieds section while others cannot
does that give the mods an unfair advantage buying things? just thinking out loud

ok guys, we have established that things are a little off, and not everyone is on the same page. points have been made and its clear what needs to be done. there is no reason to start a mods vs. us war, because i'm pretty sure that won't get us anywhere.

i will have no problem with this thread getting locked, because i think it's served its purpose.

As mentioned, when browsing the For Sale section, the mods see a reply button, so it's easy to forget there are to be no replies and do so anyway. Hell, even I am guilty of doing so. I went ahead and deleted all the replies to For Sale posts.

Everyone please play nice.

What's happening with this issue of creating a new "Off-Topic" section?

I would like to start a thread on Halloween costumes but don't want to get busted for placing it in the "General Chat" section.

Help?
