Small skirts from chrysler-w on ebay are like $180 shipped. You'll have to paint them. There was a time where you could special order the small skirts in MSM colors, but I think they're all gone. I know black and orange are now unavailable.

300 has been the "magic number" for the Escort/Protege guys for almost two decades now... Apparently it just takes awhile for the Miata community to catch up.


Thanks for reminding me on the skirts... i need those, and maybe to track down another MSM front lip because mine is hammered and such.

300 has been the number for miata guys since paul's ride too. He had hit 300 with a stock bottom end before I even joined miataturbo back in 08

With a good tune, i don't see how it would be much different. Yes, you'll be WOT more often and etc etc etc... but track use is ALWAYS more wear and tear on any car. Not worth worrying about.

We replaced the trans and diff fluid on the MSM yesterday. (Thanks adamXXXXXXXX and ryanXXXXXXXstorey!)

Shifter boots are totally fucked, so we didn't bother with the turret fluid.

So, i need boots, and would like to do the bushing while in there.

1) Where's the cheapest place to get boots these days?
2) The aluminum bushing that 5X sells says it's only for up to 01 transmission. Where do i get the pimpy bushing that fits MSM?
3) Should i get the full rebuild kit for $103 from Planet Miata and add the aluminum bushing on top of that? Car has 74k miles on it.

I don't really want the throws any shorter, to be honest. If they were shorter, i'd need an extender, which i also don't want.

"Rebuilding" a shifter is just a matter of swapping out a few bushings anyway. Nothing major or time consuming

Just checked, small skirts appear to be gone, only large are for sale now for $175
- damn pleased I got mine a couple of years ago while they were still available.

Yeah i'm not real worried about it... just trying to find someone that will sell me the full rebuild kit but with the aluminum bushing instead of the stock one. (Looking at you, Planet Miata. )

SOMETHING is rattling under my car when i go over bumps and IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!


I have no idea what it is. Thought it was one of the heatshields hitting the exhaust but it's not. I checked all my braces, i don't see anything with any play, and it's not driving strange.

Rattling is getting way worse. I think something is about to fall off, but i can't find anything loose under the car.


Another question: Who sells the aluminum shifter bushing that will fit our cars?

I have a horrid rattle also. But I'm almost positive it is a heat shield. It only does it at lower rpm and engine gets under load. Like pulling out of a rolling stop in 2nd gear in a parking lot.

After thinking about it more, i bet it's the front big silver heatshield that goes between the exhaust and the butterfly brace.

Do i need that thing? If i can't get it to stop rattling, i'm going to want to just remove it. Nothing pisses me off more than having a nice car that sounds like a fucking hoopty as i drive around town because of a hideously loud rattle.

On my '04 the "second" heat shield around the turbo has been a repeat offender of rattling. I am speaking of the lower back (closest to the firewall) heat shield. you have to remove the upper turbo heat shield to remove it. I have adjusted it two times now. Granted it only did it minorly at like 1700-2000 rpm on cold start-ups. Should be easy to find out if it is that one on your guys' cars as well...

Hrmmm.... i'm not getting any rattle rpm-based or sitting still or cruising on smooth roads... only bumps.

I'll check that, though.

I have the same problem. I hacked up the car by the diff and hit the tires till something rattled. found like it's above the diff. only over bumps do I hear anything. would liker help as well, anyone have a clue

I'll try that tomorrow as well, but mine is in the front half of the car.


At the moment, i'm more concerned about finding a nice shifter bushing for the car... where to buy?

Anyone know a tuner in my general area what will mess with Hydra? This is ridiculous. I just got wasted by a stock-with-exhaust NC.

Me and my friend's FB with 13b on 12psi were going at it. Pretty neck and neck on the straight but i tapped that ass in the corners even being as low as I am. Installing the hydra and injectors sept once it starts cooling down.

Friggen a, I can't figure out why my rostra cruise won't work. Only thing I can guess is you have to have one of their controllers. I am trying to just use a stock miata control stalk.
