This is great! Hopefully I can bring my car back from the dead to try and get out there. Just got totaled by an oblivious woman on 12/14... I really want to thank everyone who is organizing this as it is a tremendous task and its really great to have alternative options to MC. Hope to see you guys out there at some point this season.

Nope.

Blackbird: You are way to stripped and chopped up to be in street. And i know you know that :)

Batou: what tires do you have?

B3b3g1: Maybe we can send 01 and above miatas into mod class if they have a certain amount of mods. We can't please everyone with the rules but were trying to make it so that we keep it simple and fun. Will you be attending?

Skyep3: yeah your allowed any combination.

Might need a rewording to "nearly" OEM weight? Lol

Granted, the spirit behind this idea seems to be to have a less stringent, more laid back series in terms of classing, but I think this highlights why Miata Challenge is specific about things - you have to be. People will always say, "well, HOW much lighter can I be to stay in street?" So unless you define it with a specific amount, you'll always get people needing clarification. And if you do specify - such as, "no less than 50 lbs less than OEM weight", then you have to set specific different weight limits based on which chassis the miata is, and you have to base it all on an honor system because most people don't know their true weight... so then it all goes back to the best strategy being to just specify from the beginning which items may be removed and which may not for street class instead of even bothering with weight numbers.

^ As it is, there's pretty much no way a turbo/supercharged miata is going to also be able to run 100 treadwear tires - because just about any forced induction car is going to also have testipe/hi-flow cat, exhaust, torsen, sways, and suspension. Which means any forced induction miatas in Mod are gonna be on street tires, whereas the N/A cars get to use NT-01s. That, coupled with the fact that the N/A car can be lighter, I think has potential for a pretty even match up.

I don't know if the weight of a turbo kit is really going to make or break the car. Since it can all be nullified anyways.

Aero and weight is unrestricted in Mod and Unlimited.

But, I totally forgot about the max modifications allowed. I just saw the list and went, "...sh!t...".

I've been doing the street class in the miata challenge for the past year and I have one major complaint about these rules. There is no equalizing factors to be able to run a 1.6L NA against a 1.8L NB in the street class with the same mods. Its like 50 lbs heavier but at least 20% more power.

I was able to go a hair under 1:32 at streets last month but I could not touch the NC miata that ran a 1:30. It's got almost twice my power.

First event is in 18 days! Who will be attending? I'm gonna get a list started to have trophies made. If you might attend but still undecided just put "undecided" next to your name. Remember there will be trophies and gift certificates for the winners. 1st 2nd and 3rd all receive prizes ;)

Street:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Mod:
1. GrippyMiata
2.
3.
4.

Unlimited:
1.
2.
3.

• 140 UTQG Tires (141+ UTQG tires are not part of the list)
• Header/ Testpipe/ Hi-flow Cat
• Exhaust
• Intake
• Coilovers/ Springs
• Sway Bars F/R
• Torsen

I have all those above for my NA.....but i want to match the Street class, what should i take out ....?
High flow cat?
random exhaust?
custom CAI ?

Since there is a power difference between NA,NB and NC
for making those more fair, should it be
NA miata 7/7 mods?
NB miata 6/7 mods?
NC miata 5/7 mods?

so this is what i have.....1996 NA miata

• 140 UTQG Tires Yes, RS3
• Header/ Testpipe/ Hi-flow Cat no header, no test pipe but a high flow cat
• Exhaust knock off ebay exhaust
• Intake CAI
• Coilovers/ Springs Tein Flex
• Sway Bars F/R Racing Beat
• Torsenyes

So my case if i wanna run Street class, i can only run 6/7 .... then i should put back the stock intake? o_O
