I figured there was no spotted thread on cr.net and the spotted thread on miata.net is about all of NY, I would make a chat and spotted thread for us city and long island guys and girls! We can talk about events going on in our neighborhoods and plan and create meets. Picture this as an internet home for us miata guys!
and the reason I'm creating this is because i decided to keep my miata. The more I drive it the more I love it. The only thing that was concerning me was the size of the car. Almost everything is taller than my miata and it was scaring me. Also its my only car right now and a small 2 seater convertible isn't convenient at all. I came from an is300 so I'm use to bigger cars lol. Either way I decided to keep her and I'm glad to be part of the miata community |

I am in Manhattan visiting right now.
How do you guys deal with having a car in this city? I might be moving here in a year or so (not Manhattan, somewhere cheaper) and dont know what I will do with my car. |

DO NOT DRIVE IN MANHATTAN! that's how.
If you're renting, I suggest finding a place out in Long Island, more likely to have a garage, and quieter. But don't buy there, property taxes insane, and if you don't have kids it ain't worth it. If you can't get a place w/ a garage, you should look for a place w/ parking for rent nearby, preferably indoors or out of sight. |

What he said. I rent in my town and we have a parking lot that we can rent spots in. Works for me even tho it isn't the most secure thing my car isn't flashy enough to warrant any unwanted attention.

yeah miatas arent the hottest car to steal here. if u drove an eg civic than you have some serious problems lol. i rent a garage down the block from me and i have a drive way in front of my house. the best thing in the world! i dont have to deal with alternate parking. i think i collected $1000 worth of alternate side parking tickets before i got my garage lol.
if your looking to rent a place look in long island. parking is a breeze, you usually have a driveway and you can rent a place double the size of an apartment in queens for the same price if your buying, taxes in li are absolutely ridiculous so lean more towards whitestone or rego park |

I would not be buying. If I was to move into the the 5 boroughs the miata would probably not be a daily. I would mostly be riding my bike and using public transportation. I would be moving with my girlfriend if she gets into school, so commuting to Manhattan will probably be required. Long Island seems a little far west for an easy commute.

it is. i didnt know you needed to commute into the city everyday. most any train will take u into the city. its very easy to get there. personally id look into middle village, rego park, maspeth, and howard beach. those are all really nice communities and public transportation is never an issue. even riding a bike isnt that bad in those areas. the roads are usually wider or less crowded (although you have those dick heads in howard beach flying through their streets) keep in mind that its illegal to ride you bike on the sidewalk in ny so u have to share the roads with motor vehicles

Yea, your best bet is to figure out where in the city you have to commute to. Then find out what subway is closest and where it leads. THEN find a decent place to live within that area.
