2007 Topless Sun Run General Information
The Okanagan Valley Miata Club has a very special Topless Sun Run planned for 2007. We are honoured that Mr. Takao Kijima, the MX-5 program manager (chief engineer) from Mazda Japan, will be attending this year?s event. Back in the mid 1980s, Mr. Kijima was Mazda?s suspension specialist and was among the original group of engineers asked to develop Mazda's new sportscar. Mr. Kijima has been with the Miata project for over two decades since, contributing to all three generations of cars. Our honoured guest will give a presentation on the history and the future of the Miata / MX-5 during the Saturday evening banquet. This will be a truely unique opportunity to hear the inside story from one the Miatas "founding fathers". Anticipating greater interest in this year's special Topless Sun Run, the OVMC has changed the venue to the Coast Capri Hotel for this year only, allowing them to raise the attendance limit to 350 people. We are indebted to Mazda Canada and Kelowna Motors for arranging Mr. Kijima's trip and sponsoring this special event at a venue capable of accommodating a larger group of Miataphiles. It is only through their generousity that we are able keep the cost to participants very close to previous years. The entry fee for this year?s event will be $50 CAN ($43 US) per person and includes the following events and meals (except where noted): Friday, May 25 3:30 pm - 8:30 pm Drive through registration at the Coast Capri Hotel 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Miata mingle and BBQ in the parking lot (smokies / soft drinks available for a small fee) 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm Wine and cheese reception / silent auction begins 8:30 pm Official welcome Saturday, May 26 8:00 am - 8:30 am Registration available for latecomers 9:00 am - 11:00 am North Okanagan backroads run 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Show and shine / lunch 2:00 pm onward Free afternoon for more back roads, sightseeing, napping 5:00 pm Banquet doors open / cocktails / silent auction continues 6:00 pm Mazda Canada banquet 8:00 pm Presentation by MX-5 program manager Takao Kijima Sunday, May 27: 9:00 am "Arrive and Drive" Autocross. 2007 MX-5s and other Mazda vehicles will be supplied by Mazda Canada 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Brunch at the autocross http://okmiataclub.com/sunrun/sunrun.htm |

well, it is time for the sun run and, from what I hear, it is going to be the biggest miata meet in NA this year! Is anyone going? is anyone already there?
I'm driving out early tomorrow with plans to be at the ranch for the show and shine. I've got no official pass but I'm bringing some scotch and a tent... if anyone wants to form a clubroadster posse... I'm in! give me a call at 403-612-2058 and we'll do it up right. <edit>and for the vancity people... it's 4 hours... wake up early and enjoy a nice drive! http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...=UTF8&z=8&om=1 </edit> |

I have some pictures to follow this but here is what I have, so far, of the meet.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTs_vHS-4NI Mostly old grumpy men but still, a fuckton of miatas and that's always good to see. The driving was great... even when my lower radiator hose blew in the middle of nowhereland, british columbia. did anyone else make it? |
