Campobello is TINY. I'd be bored out of my mind in that part of the state. It is the middle of nowhere. Not horribly far from Spartanburg, but Spartanburg isn't exactly huge. I am from Columbia but the only cities I would consider living in in SC would be Charleston and maybe Greenville. It's pretty, but it's out there.

We have talked about what is going on in the PNW and wonder if the bottom will drop in a few years. Once people see how horrible the services are and that the cities (at least PDX) seem a lot more concerned with the homeless than public safety and educating kids, a lot of the people who moved there will head back out. Maybe this will happen and some people who really love it and have been priced out can move back. I don't think PDX knows how to be a big city and to manage the traffic and all the rest that comes with it. People are VERY resistant to change there. If the bottom doesn't drop and it keeps growing, they are in for quite a mess. My property taxes are insane and will go up about $1,000 next year and the property crime is rampant. Anything and everything that isn't glued down is stolen... someone I know once joked that you can't say nailed down because they will just steal the nails and sell them for scrap. We have homeless camps everywhere. If you live in another part of the country and haven't seen it before, it can be a real shock. And the tourists... omg. I know we travel a lot and are often not at home, but I always say that I try to be a traveled and not a tourist. I try not to stand in the middle of roads, drive the wrong way down one ways, and be part of 3 hour long lines for artisan ice cream.

It's tough though because it's so amazingly beautiful and a lot of the values line up with mine. The people are nice. The homes and dream-like 100+ year old old-growth hardwood masterpieces (except all of the awful apartments that are being built) and the entire part of the country is just amazing. But yeah, it's become a place to vacation, not to live... for now.

As for the snow tires.. I used to work in Boston about 6 months out of the year. Studded tires???? Ummm no. I would looooove to see some Portlander in their Subaru argue with a Bostonian about snow tires. That would be cute. They are actually illegal in a lot of places because without a constant layer of ice on the roads, they do a lot of damage.

You know...even in the age of the SNES, getting to watch a game ending is strangely satisfying when you've actually played through the game.

I'm terrible at video games. I rarely get to see the endings. I did beat Halo 1 through 4 in one weekend with a buddy in coop mode.

For the record, I played through Front Mission: Gun Hazard. An odd offshoot of the Front Mission series, it mixed RPG elements with side-scrolling platform mech 3PS play. It features work by three of the stalwarts of the Final Fantasy series: Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu, and Yoshitaka Amano. I'd hate to see what my hour count on it was

Never been out to the PNW but would like to visit to see the sites. If I had to pick one place to move to, it would be near Lexington, KY. Lived there my 9th thru 11th grade years and loved it. Beautiful countryside, people are friendly and nobody seemed to be in a big hurry. Then again, this was 30yrs ago (damn, I'm getting old) so things could have changed drastically. Tam is a FGL fan and they are opening up a restaurant in Nashville this summer. I plotted it out and Lexington is a 9.5hr drive from home. We'd stay there overnight and I'd do some reminiscing and then off to Nashville. On the way home, I'd go SE to hit 129 before coming home.

Tomorrow the missus and I celebrate 22yrs of marriage. We've been trying to figure out where to go for dinner. Don't want to go anywhere too expensive so we are going to narrow our choices down later. At the moment the front runner is Emeril's Fish House in the Sands Casino. From there we can gamble, re: lose, $20 and then walk around the shops and grab some ice cream from his burger shop or Carlo's Bakery.

Sadly, we will be attending a longtime friend of the family's funeral in the morning. He's been on oxygen for a while now but was rushed to the ER Monday night out of nowhere and shortly after the decision was made to pull the plug. A month ago, I was sitting next to him at a wedding talking and laughing and he had asked us to come to their new place over the summer.

As for new games, I don't play them much but the FPS are easy to win. Countless lives and save points. These kids today don't know tough games, 3 lives, 3 continues and then you start all over. lol One of my faves was the the OG Resident Evil. Not only did you have to find a typewriter to save but you better make sure you have some ink ribbons!

Thanks. Stuff like that is always daunting but I figure if somebody else can unplug a few wires and back out domes screws then surely I can do it too. The thought is always present in my mind, 'you can make this so much worse and more expensive if you fuck up', but I just push through that and make sure to be careful with everything. A movie quote that always runs through my mind when I'm about to do something new is from Vince Vaughn's character, Peter La Fleur, in Dodgeball. He says "I've found that the best way to learn a new sport is to just play it anyway."

This is funny to me, since I live in Lexington. lol
Traffic sucks in Lexington and people get raging boners over who can drive the shittiest. Things are the same in regards to nobody being in a hurry, as far as traffic goes at least. I do agree that there is tons of pretty countryside to be had.

Lol. I moved from there back in the summer of 1990. At the time I thought New Circle Road was pretty damn cool. Id go back to show the wife the countryside as well as where I lived. My dad was a Safety Officer for the Federal prison system and we lived on the prison grounds off of Leestown Road.

Meh... I still like Seattle. I don't think any part of the world is safe from change right now. I'd rather be at the forefront of that change than waiting for it to happen to me.

Drove down 101 to Seaside. I'll never get tired of this road. It's so good.

We have a new roundabout here in town. I was stuck behind a lady (in a Prius; I have formed my some fairly negative thoughts about that demographic) who would NOT move into the circle. There was plenty of gap between cars, traffic was light, so I honked. Two times, at each missed opportunity to merge. She threw up her hands in a "wtf?" gesture. I wanted to walk to her door and ask her to let me move her vehicle for her, since this experience was clearly too much for her to process.

During this entire encounter, there was a car on the entry on my left, sitting there. That means TWO drivers I saw at the same space of time who did not understand what a YIELD sign means or how to operate in a roundabout.

Just got back from the Ozarks. Why don't people talk about Arkansas? What it lacks in, well, everything it vastly makes up for with some excellent driving roads all over the damn place. Drove 1000 miles this weekend on twisty mountain passes with 55mph speed limits and some fantastic scenery. And the Miata was fantastic. My only gripe is my garbage brakes but eh, whatever. And the 6 speed gearing makes SO MUCH more sense on that kind of road than it does at an autocross. 2nd and 3rd were perfectly laid out to give me power (what little my car has) where I need it. If only it was a dogleg transmission...

Sharing one small garage with two friends has it pros. I thought that I will have to wait until my vertebrae will heal so I could repair my car. But now it seems that my car will be repaired sooner than I would heal. And it will cost me just beer.

You've apparently got the right kind of friends. If my buddies were working on my car it would likely be fudged up in just a few turns of the wrench. For example, my one buddy was extremely proud of himself when he figured out how to change his fog light bulb by himself. Not the kind of guy you'd want doing any real maintenance.
