Huh? Yours was the seat-of-the-pants arguement. What do you think "feel" is? I'm saying both the Frs and miata are actually faster with the tires you said are a waste.

How is anything I said about seat of the pants? Exact opposite.

That car has exhaust and a tune. Crazy stuff going on, I know.

949racing also setup a 100% stock frs with 255s.

I think what Sdemo is trying to say is a stock miata on a 225 street tire. Not really relevant to a prepped FR-S on 275 slicks.
edit: Element Tuning did admit they needed a correct size tire as they feel they didn't have enough power for their 285

but I really enjoy that machine. Beating the competition on BC coilovers and a dreaded Hydra EMS.........oh....and Rotas? Man, I can imagine shoving it in peoples faces

That frs has a full interior and is on 275 Rs3s.

How is that track prepped?

Has hoosiers on it. Also said they need more power for the large size of em. But this aint my argument. I'm just reading up on it

Read the god damn captions on the link talking about the actual race setup on that day.

I dont care what is on or was on at some other point in time. It was on 275 Rs3s the day it won that race.

Jesus you guys are slow today.

Read the comment under the video. He said he did 1 session on stree tires, but he took the win using hoosiers

oh wait, i didnt watch your video. I think they are different. same car tho

Either way, doesnt negate the fact that he even admitted he needed more power for the tires

anddd that thread i was reading is 1 year old

I say this as someone whom you all know actually works to keep healthy and trim. If what I am about to say offends you, I apologize. That said, it should make you think.

Here it is:

I, for one, am happy that I do not have to do a squat and give myself half a reach-around just to take a piss. It amazes me how many guys where I work are so fat that they can't even reach over their own stomachs to point their junk where it needs to go. I would be so embarrassed that I'd sooner sit down to go to the bathroom if given the option.

Just an observation, and my reaction to it.

Are you familiar with the law of diminishing returns? 275s may be perfectly functional, but at what point does added width (and weight) cost speed / acceleration? 275s on a 2 mile long track may be perfectly fine... but for other types of racing, it may not be optimal.

Haha whoops. Okay so it might be pretty fast lol.

Still a very common tire size is 255 on stock frs.

What I'm saying is, judging on feel doesn"t make it the best choice. Based on "feel" and "fun" I'm sure the stock POS tires are loads of fun. What fun is a sports car that can't hoon, right? Still doesn't make it the fastest and certainly doesn't make the car faster. While I agree a narrow tire would be fun, calling the wider better performing tire a "waste" is silly. Just means you need to quit driving like a bitch and get on track to have your fun instead of hooning on the street like an asshat.

A 255 is not a wide tire. We've been hanging around with miatas too long.

For a car with 170 whp, a 255 is a wide tire.

Ever seen a C Street Prepared Miata?

It's about going fast. If the car keeps getting faster the more rubber you throw at it, you keep throwing rubber at it.

Yes, there IS a point where you can have too much rubber. 255s/275s on an FRS/BRZ is not that point. Proven.

If you like to go slow and knowingly lower the limits of your car in the name of fun, that's your choice to make. I won't fault you for that, nor should anyone else.

What IS completely asinine about what you're saying though is how you're branding anything that doesn't follow your way of thinking as stupid. Or not-so-subtly hinting that the FRS can make no use of a 275 width tire. Unfortunately, both of those things are 100% wrong.

A car is substantially more than its engine. A 255 is a wide tire for an FRS. It's not too wide. It's just "good.

I wish i could get 255s that were the right diameter for my daily driver. Shit i wish i could get 275s.

I wish i could get 245s on my Miata.

Maxxis victra mc-1

245/40/15

Basically a nt01 though. I really want to see a set mounted on a 15x10.

Lol @ 255 being too wide but 225-235 being just right. Its 20mm...

Say a nb does well with 225/45. A 255 scales up perfectly to the frs when you take notice its 400lbs heavier and itt has 60hp more at the flywheel than the nb. Its a great match if you care about traction. Heck its worth getting just because it will shed heat better amd not grease up as fast.

Why does everyone here talk about everything in relation to a track?

Jesus guys, a car can live on the street too, some also live on jackstands. We also cant seem to have a discussion without someone regurgitating every bit of information they've read or experienced about a particular subject when one comment rubs them a little raw. We get it, a lot of us know some shit about cars FUCKING SHOCKER I KNOW.

Chill the hell out.

This is so much awesome. It should be a bumper sticker. On my Miata.

Bryan - your coworkers being "so fat" story troubles me, and now I'm going to work to put it out of my mind. Thank you.

I run 275 RA1s on my Camaro and I'm limited to 330 hp at the wheels. Just dropping that off at the pool as a factoid.

edit: correction: my Camaro hasn't actually "run" on anything in a couple of years. I should stop referring to it in the present. Boat anchor, anyone?

...no, you don't.

Nothing personal...just saying that you can't say "why won't people let me mod my car the way I want?" when you can't/won't do the work entirely by yourself. Especially with tire stretch, shops are only willing to deal with so much to mount your tires, in light of both liability (you may find this dubious, but they don't) and the fact that every minute they waste on your special order request is several minutes they could be spending on all the Accords, Camrys, minivans, etc that actually use normal fitment.
