Hey guys, will a 91 manual trans work on a 97 model? I'm thinking about getting a 97, but its auto and I already have a 91 miata trans laying around. Another thing is will the automatic ECU from the 97 still work with the manual trans and what things should I remove from the wiring harness?

Yes, but the 94+ transmissions are supposedly a little stronger and have better syncro's on 2nd gear.
I wouldn't fuck with the wire harness or ecu. Throw in a clutch pedal, change the pedal box for the brake/gas, install clutch hydraulics, clutch/pp/flywheel, transmission, manual trans ppf brace and driveshaft. I wired the electronic parking lock to be permanently disabled (just tied them together) rather than trying to run the wires back to the clutch switch. splice in the reverse lights you should be good to go. That's how I did it with a 94 trans in my 90auto |
