Default 1.6 to 1.8 fuel problems

Ok so I installed a JDM 1.8 into a 90 1.6 chassis. The engine cranks over turns on for half a second and then just shuts off. I don't hear the fuel pump coming on and the fuel gauge is not working. I jumped the ground to the FI in the diagnostics plug and the fuel pump came on. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking ground but I looked around and I seem to have gotten the ones I can remember seeing. I also double checked the one ground that goes to the transmission brace. Any ideas? OHH... I did add more gas to make sure it wasn't empty.

Which ecu are you using? 1.6 or 1.8?

Sorry I forgot to add some more info on what I'm using.

1.6 ecu
1.6 injector harness
1.6 coils
1.8 injectors
1.8 CAS
Flyin miata Tb adapter
Gaskets for adapter and 1.6 throttle body

I jumped the ground and FI and turned on the car and car stayed on with a rough idle and as soon as I hit the gas it shut off. The fuel level gauge is still not working and was working before the swap.
