I was thinking about this today nd was wondering if possible would you be able to add on in the futurethe bars that go up through the dash as well? since it is like a DIY?

i'd love to have one of these one day!

any estimate on what the actual weight difference is between your bars and your competitors?

i actually just took my other-brand roll bar, it will probably be better to save weight for STR. it was actually convenient to be able to unbolt it though I understand that probably contributes to the higher performance of your bars

I assume this is DOM, so what wall thickness are we talking here?

Sorry about the delay with all the details, final pricing etc.. I ran through a bunch of prototypes of the redesigned front mount and door bars trying to optimize it.
The latest version is probably also the final one, as it does exactly what I wanted it to do -

* Retain all the benefits of the 6 point roll bars without compromise
* Simplify the installation process
* Easier to get in and out of the car (mounts lower on the rocker)
* Fits factory seats while allowing aftermarket seats to be installed as well

As a side benefit, it appears the weights of the 6 point set will also drop by a little bit, and less weight is always a good thing in my book

Hellion, this is a roll bar, if you trying to convert it in the future to a cage I'd recommend against it for various reasons, with the main one being that the roll bar bolts to the car and a GOOD cage is welded to the chassis and is generally designed differently altogether.

scsi, depending on the spec, I have a few to choose from.

ultimateforce, the roll bars are made from DOM tubing in more than one thickness.

will your 4-point roll bars be completely bolted in then? or will they also require welding?

I have a and am interested in a 4-pt GT3. at this point, I am building my car for SCCA Solo-II STR and so less weight is far more important to me than stiffness just because of the type of racing i'm doing. however, being that this is a "limited run", I am interested in possibly taking advantage of this opportunity. how much would a 4pt GT3 weigh and cost? how will weight and cost be affected by adding SCCA approval? and a harness bar?

I'm very interested in a similar setup. I contacted you on your site about a 4pt rollbar but never heard back. Would love to get a bolt in 4pt from you with harness bar.

My appologies for the slow replies, guys.
Been under a ton of pressure between doing the R&D for the redesigned door bars, trying to finish a bunch of orders, getting racecars out the door and of course with the little bit extra time that I don't even have to support my own efforts in the Miata Challenge .

I appreciate your patience and understanding as I'm working with my engineer on finalizing the details of the roll bars production run(s).

The 4 points are all bolted in, allowing them to be user installed assuming the user is able to follow the instruction manual and operate tools with reasonable skills.

The 6 point roll bars do require welding as a part of the installation but they are bolted to the chassis.
This means that you'll want a pro to do the installation or at least the welding part.
It also means that if you ever wanted unbolt the roll bar and take it off the vehicle you can, and the only thing you'll have left in the car are the front receivers.

An SCCA legal GT3 4 point will weight roughly 42 Lbs., NASA legal versions are a few Lbs. lighter (weight TBA).
There won't be a difference in cost, the process that it takes to build the roll bars is the same and the differences in the costs of materials are minor.

Harness bars come as standard for cars with plastic rear window or no soft top, those standard harness bars will NOT work with a glass soft top.
Cars will glass window may elect to have their roll bar done with no harness bar (price stays the same) or have the optional curved harness bar added to the roll bar for a $150 fee.

Hellion, the speaker box from Goodwin doesn't clear the roll bar.

Emilio, my appologies for the missed message on the site.
The pricing of the setup is largely dependent on the car - is yours an NA or NB? glass or plastic rear window?
Pricing for the 4 pointers is as following -

Single diagonal - $475
DD - $525
GT3 - $675
Add $150 for the curved harness bar if needed.
All hardware and backing plates are included and the roll bars are finished with Black powder coating as standard.

Custom color powder coating is available for a small additional fee and I definitely recommend taking advantage of this option because it is a really nice personal touch to put on your car for not a whole lot of money (normally $50-80 fee for a 4 point) and Black roll bars are like belly buttons - everyone has one ...

And again guys, I appreciate your patience as Blackbird Fabworx roll bars are making the big jump from a built-to-order pieces to a prodction run version.

thanks so much for the info, i'm really excited about this!

i have a 99 and it used to have a single diagonal roll bar from one of the other guys. they highly recommended their high density padding and vinyl or leather wrap in case your head ever made contact with the bar. what are your thoughts on this? I had a bolt in harness bar with that which i didn't end up using. does your built in harness bar improve stiffness significantly? how about additional weight? to be honest, i never really used my harness bar and don't plan to at the moment. i wish i could afford your lightest model AND a SCCA approved version with harness bar =P

are the 4pt bolt in bars a limited run as well? or do you plan to continue to produce them indefinitely?

Moti, I've got an NA and will be pulling my soft top out for the installation of whatever bar I decide upon. Do you have instructions available for review?

scsi -
Padding is definitely a good idea, a steel tube will win any death match with a human head.
The cover is more of a visual bit, no safety related contribution.
The harness bar definitely adds to the stiffness of the structure more as an integrated member.

All Blackbird Fabworx roll bars are gearing towards production in some quantity, some are higher priority than other models.
The production is not going to be a continuous thing as a full on production line, instead the roll bars will be made in batches.
The key here is WHEN you place your order, I'm making a serious effort to make this as easy possible for customer to place an order and get their roll bar in a timely fashion.

Emilio -
Your car will need the NA versions than, $475 for SD, $525 for DD and $675 for GT3.
The instructions for a the 4 points are pretty similar to any other 4 point.

I really.... really hate being broke...
I would love the GT3 with the harness bar... I'll be getting in touch whenever I happen to have disposable income again

Will you shoot me a PM with your name?
At times it may take me a few days to get back to every email (especially if I have a pile waiting after coming back home from a race), but not a few weeks.

The reality is that BFW is currently a one man show most of the time (I have a part time helper) and while I'm getting ready to make the jump to a full scale shop and have things worked out much quicker, the demand currently is bigger than the supply.
I am getting to every email though at times it takes a little bit, especially if a car needs to get out on the race track - there are quite a few customers out there that know that their cars were done in an impossible time frame because I worked on them 15 or 18 hour days.

Those who are hot to trot and want to buy something and get it right now have other options, but anyone who have the patience to wait for a better product and understand that at times some waiting is involved, rest assured that you will get what you paid for and it'll be worth the little extra time.

It's not perfect, but until I iron out the details it is what it is.

for the sake of comparison, would you be able to also post up the weight of a GT3 bar in its lightest configuration? im guessing this would mean not legal for SCCA or NASA, and also delete the harness bar. would such a configuration still provide ample protection in the event of a roll over? would it still significantly stiffen the chassis?

I had a Single diagonal built to NASA spec on the scale yesterday and it was 32 Lbs with a harness bar.
I have yet to build a GT3 in the config that you're asking about, how about weighing yours after you place your order ?

Guess I found the reason why my last email didn't get a response. I figured you were a busy guy. But didn't kknow it was a one man army.

I've been waiting to see if it would be possible to just get the GT3 bar and just do a home install. I'd like the 6point, but with a daily drive the 4point seems to be the better choice at this time. My question is how easy or difficult would it be to get the door bars installed later on?

Would these be shippable to the UK? There really isn't anything decent available over here, and Hard Dogs are changing hands for 400 second hand! Plus I want something no one else has... especially as it appears to be the best!

PM incoming! - Edit - Inbox full, will try again later!
