Default My 03 NB project. Now with TURBO!!!

the car:
03 Miata NB8C
Garnet Red Mica
Sports Pkg
No A/C
Hard Top
51,000km when purchased:

This is with a 35% tint all around done

6000k HID:

*picture was taken at sunset, please excuse the weird lighting*

3000k Fog light bulbs and high beams are installed as well, no picture

finally, at the moment, here's what's sitting in the garage:

I will update as the car's parts come in and I earn the money to finish this... the goal this time is simply avoid mistakes, and wait for the oppertunity. I believe I probably wasted over 4g in wheels alone in my old car, another 2g in seats, so i'd like to avoid these problems by doing it right hte first time

Coming soon:
Spec Clutch Stage 2 with flywheel
FM Hydra Turbo and Radiator
Hard Dog Rollbar with 6 pt. Harness
2 Sparcos to be returned into the car
Various LED treatments in the inside
6UL in bronze 15x8 for track work only

Those are the major bits and pieces that would be installed hopefully before the next track season in late april...

Other future plans:
Upgrade chassis strength
nice set of 16' gold street wheels (want Advan RGII)
replace interior speakers
Racing Beat bodykit

this will be an interesting year i hope...

Good looking car, looks like it will be a nice project.

I came off of a DS/W 03 MCS as well, but mine made 240 FWHP.

Default Re: My 03 NB project!

spent about 5 hours today with a few tweaks, thought i give some update

since i had 2 racing buckets in my mini, i thought it'd be simply dropping it into the car, but it wasnt so simple

i tried the passenger seat first, the seat in question is an EVO 2, which fit, just without brackets and rails, with rails the seat's rear end was so wide it couldnt squeeze between the side mounts, i couldnt even close the door with or without the rails, so im selling it, as much as i hate to

today, fitted my old sparco REV into the passenger side and that was still lined with difficulty, the wings on the seat were still much larger than most seats, and as such, the wings are rubbing on the door pockets, my other complaint, on stock rails, the seat sits far too high up, infact, i feel like im sitting EVEN HIGHER than stock seats!

until i find a replacement that cna tkae a 5 pt. harness, im keeping it, and i absolutely hate this! because i LOVE the Rev

Following Miata.net's guides, i finished these two lights, removed the sun visors, and put these 9 dollar LED clusters in, along with a 10 dollar LED panel now we are talkin lights on the interior:

finally, a VooDoo shift knob in spun Aluminum, matching the dashboard:

still hunting a solution for the sparco seat... maybe its time to find another seat... anyone have a suggestion? like Bride PROS? Recaro? MOMO's Start? or maybe just a steel framed Corbeau... (but i hear they are very uncomfortable)

anyone have experience with the lesser brands like Buddy Club?

defenitely thought of that, but the wings has to be positioned at the point where the door pocket ends and the window begins, as such, that's far too high up,

with the Rev on the floor (no rails, nothing, just sitting on the floor, the door wouldnt close either, thats why i need another seat...

had a quick drive tonight and it was confirmed, my head now even hits the roof if i sit upright on the seat, so i am defenitely sitting higher than i should be #-o

sad news... it really is

while i just started this project, and she's going into deep hibernation for a few months..

i won't get into the reasons, but let's just say the hand of God intervened, and that I am no longer able to afford the turbo and all the other juicy stuff ive lined up for this car...

i am not falling off the miata game yet.... i am not 100% certain if im selling it yet... i hope to keep it, and that 6g set aside for the FM turbo can be put to good use, like do up the rest of the suspension, buy the tires i want for the track, put the rollbar in the car, etc. etc,

essentially, the focus changed

more juicy update...

and thus, the new track wheels arrive, brand new from the states is 99 USD... factor in shipping and brokerage im probably looking at over 600 cdn by the time it gets to my door

and luck for me, i paid about half that for these:

okay, so they will not be everyone's cup of tea... but with some sicky 205/50-15.... they should prove to provide the power and grip i need... ill miss the power that only the turbo can give, but let's see what happens (especially if the money comes in... )

current incoming:
LOTS of suspension mods
full header back custom exhaust
Fuji Header
Fidanza Flywheel
Hard Dog Rollbar

i promised:

SSR SP2R 16x8 purchased from another CR member... finally, it maybe quite a impulse buy (i wasnt even planning to get street wheels to begin with)

the other thing is, these are almost as light as my track 15x7! i weigh these at about 13 lbs

im gonna just put the 205/45-16 off the stock wheels onto these wheels, i cant imagine my tech to have fun mounting them on the new wheels

also, i fitted the track wheels on the car, as the tires on them now are shot, so might as well let it flat spot instead of putting the stock 205 tires on the car

i didn't think much of it, looks great if you ask me

Hey nice project Car! I suggest you paint the SSR's black instead of that mustard yellow. Would look ten times better. See pic.

Whats the offset on ur wheels btw ? I have a set of new SSR SP1R'S but my dish is an inch or two wider. I'm running +13.

SICK! those SP2R is hot on the white, but the gold should look nice on the burgundy... i can always re-paint later, besides, i am trying to keep em mint!

the offset is +27, should be nice and flush without major rubbing issues

as for mounting, believe me when I say you guys have no idea how badly i want to mount em! but as my friend says, if i mount the SSR, i will install the coilovers ASAP to see hte stance, and thus it'd begin!

GV lip? WAYYY ahead of ya! i picked a used cracked (but repaired somewhat) GV lip off the local club, just gotta go pick it up, fiberglass the back, and paint...

i ordered a new OEM aero too, so i got side-skirts, rear skirts, and the rear spoiler to match the new aero front... should be a nice exterior when its all said and done

and yes allan, we gotta get together when the weather warms up again...

been doing some more planning and the major box of parts will be soon on order, so it arrives in early to mid march, in time for the summer!

now my attention turns to the exhaust, which is the one part im going to go custom as i want to avoid that major weird bend in the back box before the muffler, with a vibrant compact quiet muffler, and a vibrant resonator, only thing is, not sure if i want a cat or not... should i try to run without first and have my tech weld on a test-pipe, so i can always swap later?

Finally, an update, been too busy at work...

well may not be such a bad thing these days i guess...

anyways, i started installation of the JIC Coilovers,

the install was not easy, while everything came out nicely, except, one nut, the endlink nut... i finally managed to remove it by using something called a nut splitter, splitted it at two places, and some hammering, and it came loose, finally

im suprised how much shorter the JIC coilovers are... maybe because it has something to do with the fact the coilovers are designed for the NA! so i had to lengthen the coilover a bit, especially the bottom... ill have to see just how much it drops in the rear... and yes i did just started the rear, so far, 25%

its good time to make fun of me, took about 1.5 hrs to do one corner #-o , and tat's before the 4 hours or so of trying to remove the endlink nut when it finally stopped and won't come out anymore

well, its a good learning experience, ive been soaking the other endlink nut for 2 days now... constant WD40... let's see if i can save this endlink...

o yea... i picked this cracked lip up too, a 01-05 GV lip: going to paint it and fiberglass the bottom, hoping it won't be too noticeable, if it is not a major deal eiter cuze thanks to CR i picked up also a full factory kit, including all bits and pieces

i did manage also to install the rear skirts

more to come, hopefully in a week the coilovers will finally be installed

yeah i had that issue of the rusted endlink so i didnt bother try n remove it... i just unbolted the two swaybar>chassis mounts and i got that travel needed.

IMO u didnt have to unbolt the rear upper a-arm from the spindle, just gotta kick.

its not a major pita to remove the upper a-arm... just re-lining it up was the difficult part.. now that i know... ill try to do it without it on the left side...
