Thumbs up Project Moby

I picked up my second MX-5 in April of 2014. It is a 1994 M-Edition and had 58,000 on the clock at the time. It had not been started in over 6 years, and sat in a garage under a cover the entire time. I named him Moby.

It leaked zero oil, was completely rust free. I ended up driving it home on shot tires, metal-on-metal brakes, and no A/C. Came home, gave it a good wash, and parked the car under cover for two weeks.

Drove it up to a local MX-5 specialty shop - 42 Autosports, who did all mechanical maintenance that they and I could think of:

- Water pump
- Timing belt
- All gaskets
- NGK ignition wires
- NGK spark plugs
- Thermostat
- Coolant
- Motul 8100 5W40 Full Synth motor oil
- Subaru Extra-S STi Factory transmission/differential fluid
- Turret oil
- Clutch bled and fluid replaced
- Brake fluid
- Brake pads and rotors - OEM
- All other fluids
- All other belts
- All other gaskets
- A ton of O-rings
- A few other bits.

I picked up Moby after a 2-week wait, and he drove like a champ. I have since replaced the shift boot and brake boot with Italian black leather with tan stitch, installed my 320mm Momo Monte Carlo from my old MX-5, and sanded the Nardi shift knob down to bare wood to get rid of all the grime that built up over the years. I ripped out the rotten rubber from the knob and replaced with the faucet rings that I have seen guys on M.Net use.

After spending a good 4 hours detailing, I went for a drive on some back roads. I couldn't resist taking a few shots:

Fast forward to 2015.

Out of pure luck, found a black Miata with a montego blue hardtop for sale. Offered to trade tops, and he agreed! Made all the difference.

All parts transferred from the old black car, but unfortunately, Moby hasn't been driven much. Parked it for the winter and didn't drive it for a while. Driven maybe 5 times this year....pretty sad. Took it out for a drive at some point and took some photos.

- 14x7 +19 RPF1
- Dunlop Direzza Star Spec
- Tein Basis
- R-Package lip

I do have a proper reason for not driving the car though, the radiator is not getting any newer, and I'm afraid it's on its' last leg. Haven't been able to put much money into Moby lately, purchased a house a few months ago and have been doing a full remodel. Moby kind of got...kicked to the curb. The house is almost done, so I will have more time to work on the car. Here's what I plan on taking care of in the near future:

- Radiator, hoses, thermostat
- Seats re-upholstered

Thanks, same suspension as in my old roadster, Tein Basis. I suppose once these give out I'll build something better, but these are perfect for my purpose.

Installed an NB K&N Typhoon intake with some help from Flyin' Miata's cruise control relocation kit.

Went for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway:

Could you take a pic of the Typhoon intake please? Since I installed a Flyin miata MC Brace, my intake choices are limited.

Hey man. Not everyone can live in the Miata's natural habitat. I know the BRP isn't the best road up there, but it's so pretty.
