Soo, still waiting on my order from Goodwin, in the meantime though, I did this:

Delrin Door Bushings courtesy of GarageStar. As you can see in the photo, I had to modify them to fit, similar to how I had to for my NB. Some trial and error and I got the fitment perfect, doors close easily and sound like closing a bank vault.

Driving impressions so far; the car feels tighter from a body standpoint. I wouldn't go as far as saying it makes the car a whole lot stiffer, but I have noticed a decent amount of reduction in "bounce" from the chassis while going over bumps in the road. Overall, they make the car just feel a bit more solid.

Goodwin Racing order: DG Motorsports Street Hardtop

So I ordered a hardtop for the princely sum of $1500 + tax, here are my overall impressions.

Installation:
Fairly easy and straightforward. There are 6 mounting positions.
The first 2 mounts require the soft top A-pillar brackets to be removed, which only takes 2 bolts:

The second 2 act like a clamp and pinch the edge of the top to the soft top tub on beside the driver and passenger seat:

the final 2 are hidden underneath two plastic covers where older generations had frankenstein bolts

PROS:
It looks excellent, like I would expect as an OEM option.
The surface of the top is perfectly even with no waves or pitting.
It's super light, could be removed by one person in a pinch.
The rear window has excellent visibility, allowing me to look over my shoulder and see cars next to me that I weren't able to see through the soft top window.
It's much quieter at highway speeds, especially when I'm on bluetooth.
Add's about 1 1/2" of extra headspace

CONS:
The color is not consistent, which is disclosed as it is technically an "unfinished" surface
The seals aren't much more that glorified weather stripping and aren't moulded, which leads to my main issue...
Theres a gap in the seals:

I believe I can probably fix the gap using some black caulk to create a continuous piece between the two seals. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the top for what it is. It's not OEM quality as far as seals and finish, but from an aftermarket standpoint, it's pretty excellent. Going forward, I'm going to get quotes for paint in both gloss black and ceramic and weigh my options.

As for recommendations, if you are a DIY'er and aren't afraid to do some finishing work yourself, it's an excellent top. If you just want a simple no-hassle hardtop solution, opt for an RF.

I assumed that was the teaser... so sexy. I say with the windshield frame and mirrors already black you stick with that theme. I'm sure it'd look great color matched but then I'd expect the windshield frame too...

Yea, I've been throwing around all three ideas since I've seen some NA's and NB's with color matched tops and black a-pillars that look pretty awesome as well. I'm partial to black hardtops tho since my NA had a similar theme going:

The hardtop plus more low is going to look awesome on that car. I'm jealous.

So it was finally time for monter truck stance to come to an end. Took the holiday weekend to install Progress lowering springs and supporting mods (endlinks, headlight adjuster).

Before:

After:

The coils have even settled a bit more since the last pic. No real driving impressions so far. As for install, I'd recommend getting a buddy to help as I was well worn out after doing all four corners.

Installed navigation:

Literally an SD card you get from Mazda with the maps on it. Easiest install ever

The ND is looking good, Collin! That is crazy that to have navi that all you need is an sd card from Mazda. If you don't mind disclosing, what does the sd card set you back?

About $300. I saw some for cheaper, but a lot of what I read about the others is they're not authentic Mazda chips, so I didn't want to take any chances. I know I could have gotten a suction cup mounted unit cheaper, but you can't beat integrated. Also it came with the manual and warranty too.

Also, the prices have been dropping so I wouldn't be surprised to see them going for sub $200 in a few years.

That's tough about the hardtop. Did you contact DG about the items you mentioned as cons? Seems like the gaps should be addressed by the company.

They're already in the loop about the whole thing. Don't know what they are planning going forward. Eventually when I get the top painted I'll try to come up with a better sealing method, but it's been working great in the rain so far.

That's good they're working with you on that.

Is there any way for you to remove the shark fin on the trunk lid or is that permanent? I've always wondered..

I'm sure you can, you would have to patch the hole in the trunk after though. But it's for the GPS, so it's staying.

I'm on the fence. I like my ND, but I wish Mazda would have done a factory accessory hardtop. I've seen a couple DGs in person and I don't love them. Guess it's time to sell and get an RF. Hah.

The factory hardtop didn't sell well for the NC, especially since they released the PRHT. Same thing goes for the RF, it's not feasible for Mazda when most who want a hardtop are just going to get the RF.

Subaru BRZ hubs have been ordered. Why do 4x100 when 5x100 is like 100 times better?
