Default James '92 Project - Street & Auto-X

I bought a '92 NA a couple of weeks ago, it's a 1.6 with 115 hp. It's my 3rd Miata already (the two other ones were sold a couple of years ago - the virus just got me again ). She's got around 121k miles, and it's a Special version here in Switzerland, incl. ABS and a differential.

So far she's bone stock and I plan on doing the following:

  • Enkei RPF1, 15x7 35 (arrived yesterday)
  • Coilovers (probably next year, haven't decided on type yet)
  • Spacers (not decided on the width yet)
  • Hardtop
  • Roll bar
  • OEM or Garage Vary front spoiler
  • Rear Spoiler (probably KG Works)
  • Sports seats (not decided on any model yet)
  • Tow Hooks
  • Header, Exhaust
  • Nardi steering wheel
  • 4 point seat belts
  • Oil-Temp and Voltmeter (VDO black)
  • Brake upgrade to the 1.8
As the regulations are pretty strict here and I do not want to have to deal with police inspections all the time, I try to keep the car street legal. Pretty difficult sometimes, as we even need to go and have the car inspected when we change wheels that are not from the car maker. Same applies to coilovers or lowering springs, exhausts (sometimes), other seats etc. They measure everything and write it into the car registration letter. Quite different and a pain in the a** comapred to the U.S.! I was very happy to hear theat the Enkei RPF1 is allowed to drive here, as they've been tested on the MX-5. But as far as I know, I'm the only MX-5 owner in Switzerland with that wheel

Rust on the front fender and left rocker panel are the first things that need to be done, including a service (timing belt, brakes, fluids etc).

4.424 kg equal around 9.75lbs

Actually, we do not have classes in Auto-X here, as we simply do not have Auto-X at all However, we're trying to "create" some slalom events similar to Auto-X in the U.S. - that's gonna need some time, so therefore I don't have to look for any classes while building up my car for it. If our events are ever going to attract enough people here, I'm sure we'll be starting to create classes.

Yeah, the wheels are awesome

I used to live in San Diego (for a short period of time only unfortunately). Believe me, living in California does not suck at all

No picture update yet, but I just ordered
  • Brake upgrade to the 1.8
  • Front fender right side (rust repair)
  • Timing belt
  • Some stuff for servicing
Mid April should all be done, incl. mounting the new wheels.

Looks very clean, my car was sold new in Switzerland!

If the water pump is as old as the car change that while doing the timing belt, at 190 000km it has probably been changed once before, but how long ago?

Thanks for the hint Vegard. We thought that we might want to change the water pump as well. Depending on how it all looks when we start servicing it.

Nice!! Did you import it to Norway then?

Not me, but a previous owner or an importer. There's another Mx-5 over here with the same reg number just 1 number different, so I'm thinking someone imported a few for profit.

No picture update yet, but nevertheless a few things have happened to the Miata.

It's been fully serviced, received the big brakes, the Enkeis are mounted as well and the rust is gone. However, it's not really perfectly painted. Doesn't matter much as the car will be used for auto-x and the daily commute to work, but it looks like a crappy done job, and it bothers me as it's not as bespoken with the repair guy. Also, when I took the car home I had a swimming pool for ducks in the trunk Got the water all out and found a whole in the rubber seal that goes around the trunk. So I guess I have to order a new one there as well.

Meanwhile I'm also back from Atlanta (thanks to all the good tipps from you guys on what to do, really appreciated that!!) and have the Nardi deep dish 330 steering wheel here. However, the wheel hub was out of stock, so I'm here with a steering wheel that can't be mounted Ordered one and hope it'll arrive here soon.

Pictures will follow soon!!
