Time is becoming an issue. Motor is going in this weekend, goal is have it running Sunday and then to drive it home some time next week. We are building an Exocet for a local guy and having a loft built in the barn, opposite the lift. Then we need to get our autoX car(s) sorted. All before mid April-ish? 0.o

NB spindles gave me another 5mm offset bump, rear looks fantastic! We'll see how the front fits once an engine/tranny go in.

I also stumbled across a totaled 94R parts car. This thing has the entire Racing Beat catalog on it. Header, cat, Power Pulse, springs, Konis, sways, links, blocks and brace kit, Simpson Design cowl hood..

So I threw the hood on real quick to see what it looked like.

Looks like it is save able.

Thanks!

I picked up my flywheel from the machine shop today. Just need to grab some break in oil on the way home and finish it all up this weekend!

So I spent the majority of my day Saturday trying to track down this bad boy..
Turns out the "MERICUH!! machine shop I used for the flywheel resurface tapped the clutch cover threads to something OTHER than correct. The m8x1.00 thread pitch is not commonly found in the metric tap & die kits you buy. The tap was a special order at the 3 closest Sears locations, mid week before I might see one. Luckily there are mom & pap hardware stores in this great town like Roush Hardware in Westerville who carry awesome stuff like this!

SO, Sunday morning I got a good forearm workout in...

At this point, there was no hope in firing the thing up that day, so I slowed down a bit and cleaned all the remaining hardware on the wire wheel:

NEAT DETAIL!
While I was under there I swapped in this body plug from that wrecked R car, this is the drain from the a/c unit under the dash. My car is now pretty much a 94 M Edition/R pkg/NB...

After the trans, ppf, '02 driveshaft went in I snapped this cool shot looking through the bumper mouth. By the way, you're welcome for the stellar photo quality!

Ultimately, I left it needing a radiator, fluids, WBO2, and start-up!!

Catch can is temporary, please disregard. Ideally i'll swap back in a squaretop or the 99 VICS manifold, run a dual inlet catch can and vent to a slash cut in the exhaust.

not much to post, except to say IT FUCKING RUNS!!

Got some fluids, apparently this Brad Penn break in oil is hot shit. Few different shops recommended it after I bought the Rotella and Lucas zinc additive.

Pulled the ign fuse, cranked it couple times, plugged it back in and...

Light at the end of the tunnel! Put 30 or so miles on it today for shakedown/ break-in. Typical drips and drops from fresh brake unions, wore the rust off the rotors, tightened a rad hose, etc. It's a weird feeling driving around in something that I've completely rebuilt or replaced all the mechanical components of in the last few months.

There is a hearty layer of dirt and dust on the thing but it still looked pretty cool in daylight for the first time since November-ish?

I haven't been over 5k or ~50% throttle but it feels pretty good. Way stronger than the junkyard 99 motor I had in it last year. The car is probably 50-60lbs lighter since the last built motor dynoed 142/135 too.

Coming off 8-10" of snow Thursday night, today was 59* and sunny. Ridiculous.

We had planned on getting the garage ready for the loft install. This required the relocation of half the stuff in there.

Before, with my car.

After, looking at the same corner

The loft will be all steel. Approximately 20x25 with the stairs leading up right in front of the entry door.

Spent the better part of 6 hours doing that...

With the barn a mess, I finally had to get my car home.

Stopped off to see some friends with the glorious layer of dirt still intact!

This thing was absolutely filthy. It doesn't even get that dirty during a rainy track weekend. Spent the rest of the day cleaning.

The start of something cool for the racecar:

The back of the face is not flush, so I couldn't reverse mount them even if I wanted to...

I prefer driver's cars to hella-swag-yolo builds and I'm sure this thing is a blast with the new motor setup. I'm living vicariously through you since my build slowed down.

Dropped the centers and a protege valve cover off at the blasters today. I had some bungs welded to the vc, and plug welded the stock rear port. Wheels will stay fairly neutral as they'll be used on multiple cars. Options for the refinish are; a normal Panasport silver, matte bronze, or gloss white. Orange is hanging around in my mind as well. I have tons of the orange reflective vinyl left over from the numbers I cut for the black car...

Input?

Hah! That's exactly why I want to mess with them! These are beat to shit. We'll see how they look after blasting.

First full tank for the fresh motor.
Still needs aligned and corner weighted, pay no mind to the reverse rake. ;p

Hardtop is off, I'm brainstorming options to seal the lexan. Also contemplating pulling the softtop. New windshield going in soon, first event in April.

Gunmetal or a darker grey/graphite for the wheels, possibly leaving the lips polished?

Lips will definitely stay polished.

In fact, I killed an hour cleaning two of them up this morning.

This is what I'm starting with:

30 minutes with some mothers mag&aluminum and a rag:

Im not sure if they'll get much more attention than this. Several nicks, chips, and scratches in all four lips.

We picked up a set of not-new-but-never-used Hankook c71 softies for the Panas. 225/45/13. Should be plenty for my codriver to learn rcomps.

Got the faces back from blasting. They look cool as heck in the raw blasted texture. So I'm just gonna throw em together. It they get nasty, greasy, brake dusty in one season, then I'll re blast and paint em next winter.

Lip before

Lip after hand polishing

Just marry em up
