first off this is not my car, its a restoration project for a customer of my dad's. he's loaded and buys whatever cars he wants and my dad works on a lot of the race car stuff. so his newest addition is this 1982 formula atlantic ralt rt-4. dude wants it restored so my dad is basically making me do all the work and chalking it up to him teaching me the ways haha.
anyways heres some pics, from today. (beware cellphone camera) shop where we picked the car up from this morning had a shitload of old racecars: ![]() bubble bags to keep the cars pristine. (one contained 1938 somethin w/ a supercharged inline 8 lol) ![]() 1960 indy 500 car ![]() ![]() ![]() the ralt is the yellow thing in the back ^^ ![]() now down to our shop. ![]() the mclaren ![]() ![]() ok enough other shit onto the project: up on stands: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() so I spent all afternoon taking it apart after my dad had to take off for a test at buttonwillow and when i left it looked like this: ![]() ![]() there was no engine in it btw.. thats all for today.. no more progress til thursday when my dad returns. stay tuned

Nice! Are you guys handling the mechanical restoration only or do you do cosmetics, too? Most functional race cars are pretty rough around the edges while most museum pieces look great but aren't on the button. Very few race cars are tuned to perfection and look like new. It's amazing what a professional detailer can do in a week's time. What's the plan for this car?
Love the McLaren btw. Is that a M1B? I have some experience with a M6A that belonged to a family friend. I pit crewed for several years when I was younger and with my dad helped tow it up and down the east coast. |

i believe we will be doing a full restore, engine and cosmetics though i'm sure we will be sending parts out for paint or whatever. my dad hasnt spilled too many details about it yet, but it will be a few month project having me work on it a few days a week when hes actually in town to show me. i will try and keep this updated with more info/ crappy cell phone pics haha.
and yea the mclaren is gorgeous, i believe its an M1B, i dont know too much about other than its for sale by one of the team owners. he has too many toys he never gets to use, plus hes a little too hefty to fit comfortably haha. |

haha you don't seem too hyped about it, (i was never really in to old racecars myself) cool stuff though regardless. If i were to ever own one i would prob dress up and resemble a bi-plane pilot
how exactly do those bubble things work? do you actually roll your car in/on close it up and then fill it with a compressor? |

haha its not too exciting, car was around before my time lol, but its still cool. and im not exactly sure how the bubble bags work, theyre not in our shop but it looked like they had a zipper and it sounded like it was on, so probably some sort of controlled environment. im sure google will tell u if u really care haha.
edit: just got off the phone with my dad, more progress on thursday. |

thanks all, working on the car is almost as fun as browsing CR lol.
and suzuki, as far as i know, no, when we picked up the car it had been in storage for the last 2-3 years so i think the tires were probably just thrown on randomly haha. cheers, Ryan |

Nice to see a good restoration being done to that car. We have an old March at one of the race shops I work at, and I'm hoping sooner or later that we get to work on it.
As for the Molecule Formula Mazda, that car looks awesome. I remember watching them from our pits in Portland in 2009 and thinking "Damn those guys are insane!" I was working as crew chief for Andrew Caddell in the MX-5 Cup series. |
