'92, MSPNP, switch to an auto TB with potentiometer TPS, no AFM.
I get part throttle surging. I switched from MAP-based accel to TPS and i still had it. The car would also stall at tip in. so, i switched back to MAP. ordered an LC-1 tonight to get serious about tuning this thing. it's been a while since i've tuned ECUs (mk 1 Link). anyone have some suggestions? i wired the auto TB as Matt suggested: Light green / red: 5 volt VREF Red / blue: TPS signal Black / light green: Ground Red: Switch, don't use this with the MS. the wires matched to the existing manual TPS harness. (on the side, after being a Link user for quite a while over the years, i REALLY like the MSPNP. i use a netbook for onboard diagnostic, which tethered with my phone, gives me a lot of options practically anywhere. nicely done guys!) |

See if you can post a data log of the problem, preferably after getting the LC-1 installed. That will shed more light on the problem.

update...installed the LC1 and uploaded tunerstudio onto the computer i use to interface with the MS. my TPS calibration is goofy. 200+ at closed, 249 open (the open is fine).
i re calibrated the TPS (this is an auto miata TB assembly on a manual) by hand with feeler gauges and a multimeter. i rechecked the MS TPS calibration, same readings, but the % DECREASES a lot after tip in then goes up to 100%. Ordered a new TPS. should be here thursday. |

new TPS in. min value is 206, max is 251. i calibrated on tuner studio. the throttle response is better, much smoother. i feel a LOT less part-throttle hunting.

Was using an AT tps sensor the only option for your set up? Could you use a manual? I did a few searches here in this forum reguarding tps and MS PnP. Im interested in comparing tps tuning and map tuning for the MS

You can use a manual TPS but it's not as baller as the auto TPS...the manual one just reads open or closed, whereas the auto one can tell like, percentages of how open it is(there are more scientific names for these two, but I can't quite think of them at the moment)...so you can get a better, smoother tune one an auto TPS.
I believe there is some basic wiring involved in using the auto TPS. |

you only use 3 pins on the auto anyways. being in cali, i always set up my stuff so i can change it back easily to pass visual and or smog. all i did was buy one female connector and 2 males at radio shack. swapping the ECUs out (OEM and MSPNP), the throttle bodies (one is a manual for the OEM ECU, the other is an auto for the MS) only takes me about 20 minutes from start to finish.
