Default Some intell on AEM.

Hey guys i'm kinda stuck in this, need some help. So i'm building my second Miata, its a 2001 se, i'm thinking on buying the new AEM EMS 4 but i am being told its not going to work due to the vvti head. And that i would need to either change out the head or change the intake cam. Does anyone have any information on this, and also has anyone ever changed the intake cam size on that head to one that isn't vvti.

umm why? You can disconnect the VVT stuff and the head will work, but at a decent power loss. You will need to get the VVT tuner to make sure of the VVT capabilities (which can give you a decent bit of power too). I think you might have some good luck with AEM questions at mt.net

So i can just disconnect the vvti and problem solved? What about the extra amount of oil it will be feeding that cam? Wouldn't it hurt the head?

I wouldn't disconnect it. You are leaving a lot of power on the table, or spool time if you FI.

I really think your questions would be best answered on AEM's forum. They offer pretty prompt tech support.

its not like its spitting the oil out. If I were you, I would consider getting the VVT to work. its a worthwhile upgrade and all the turbo guys love it for better spool. If you were NA, I would say getting a second head isn't a bad idea when you get the chance or a good deal, but this is just too good to pass up if you know what I mean.

Might want to chat with Savington/Track Speed Engineering about getting the VVT system to work with AEM.
