I figured since a have a shit ton... I am taking a strength of materials lab and we are required to design a simple test related to material analysis. I figured since a have a shit ton of miata parts laying around the garage, I can grab anything and put it to its limit until it breaks

I can use things such as strain gages, tension tester, hardness tester, torsion tester, compression test (opposite of tension test), etc.



some ideas I cam up with so far:

test to torsional strength of a drive shaft and solve for its G value
compression test a suspension spring and compare its current k value to manufacturers spring rate.
measure strain on any part such as a sway bar to measure it modulus or elasticity


If you have any ideas of a simple thing to test let me know please
Also if you are curious about the strength of a part I can possibly run the test and give you the results and analysis (I do not have the equipment to compare the strength of a short nose vs long nose crankshaft). Also I do not have engine internals laying around to test. mostly just suspension and body components.
