Basically this is a direct replacement for thet miata body, onto all the running gear. You can see more info at the website HERE[/URL]. It drops a third of the weight, with minimal fabrication making it one hell of a gocart. Couple that with my 300hp from the built(ish) 302 and it is a fucking trip. It isnt the norm build here, but still can be of entertainment for you guys. This whole build will take place over the next two-2.5 weeks. I am going to pick up the chassis Saturday, bring it back and do some modifications
the plans are for this weekend/monday:
modify the firewall to accept the larger bellhousing of the 302, and for ease of install, removal.
Fab up the floor pans; Normally they are riveted on aluminum, but i am using 16ga steel, and welding to the frame itself for rigidity and strength.
Weld in mounts for switch panel, get fuel lines, and buy some brake line
Next thursday i take the trip up to south carolina to do the actual build (i am in florida right now) saturday ill start the stripping of my miata (some of it is sold already, hopefuilly most of hte extra parts will be by that week) and plan to have the shell ready to be removed sunday afternoon and progress from there. Plan is to be totally done by the following weekend and get the roll cage built to tie into the frame itself instead of how the race version is bolted to parts.

I've already pretty much worked out what I want to do for my OEM suspension, but I'd like to fix all the buzzes and rasps I get from my very old exhaust system.

I had been looking around for a miata for a while. Ever since I drove in my friends miata in college, I wanted one, or at least a convertible. Finally I got enough comfort in my bank account that I decided to take thing seriously. I test drove a few and and pretty much everything I looked at was either rusty or way overpriced. It didn't help that I was looking in New England in the spring and trying to stay around $2000...

So anyways, I came upon a really poorly worded craigslist ad that had been up for about a week. The description said blue-green 94 with tan leather interior so I knew I might be onto something good. There were no pictures and no description besides that. I took a chance and arranged a time to take a look at it.

Once I got there, I was pretty pleased. It was a fairly clean 94 M edition with hollow spokes. It had a terrible looking trunk rack and the soft top window was being held together with silicon but all in all, it was in good shape. The guy wanted $3000 and I was going to try to haggle a bit considering the top condition...but then the guy told me he had something in the garage he'd throw in because of the top. An absolutely mint, color matched, defroster glass window hardtop. At that point I threw haggling out the window and bought the car then and there. It had about 140,000 miles on it but these motors last forever so I knew that was nothing.
So for the sake of a timeframe, I bought the car in May 2010.

Lineup of mazdas. When we went to pick up the car, we brought it back to my friends dads machine shop. The white miata is the one that got me into miatas in the first place. We were flushing the coolant that day.


The absolute first thing I did was take off the godawful trunk rack. I don't even think I have pictures of it, it was off that fast.
So, the seats were a little rough and the steering wheel had a wrap on it so I pretty much knew it was trashed. Just before my sixteenth birthday I found out my grandpa was going to get me a car so of course to say I was excited was an understatement.

This is the only picture I have when she was completely stock, a one owner 2002 LS with 76,000 miles on the clock and a hardtop. The only downside was that it was an automatic :fp: but I sure wasn't going to complain about a free car like this.


The first thing I did to the car was add the red strips on the drivers fender, and one of my friends started calling her Candy which stuck.


She stayed like this for quite a while and I was happy with the car. I saved up some money and swapped my stock muffler for a Flyin' Miata one and started looking for other parts.

Next was cleaning up the engine. I got a Racing Beat intake off ebay sprayed it black and painted the valve cover, along with a few other things. At the end of the day it looked like this

I was also getting tired of how the auto shift lever looked and since a transmission swap was out of the question I looked for a solution. I soon stumbled upon the Zoom Engineering dress up kit for auto Miatas and after some work getting one from Japan. My interior looked like this

I was very happy with how it looked and since I had also spent quite a bit of money gutting the Bose stuff from my car, I was broke so it was time to start saving for the next thing a rollbar.

After a few months of saving and looking I had decided on a silver Boss Frog Clearview.

Not only did this stiffen up the car a bit but I also loved how it looked.

I know you guys are screaming "Needs more low!":x but we'll get to that. Next was my first real DIY project and I started very simple. I found out that the turn signal stalks were aluminum and could be sanded down and polished so that's what I did. I was happy with how it turned out.


After a few months of not doing anything to the car I decided I was going to get a new steering wheel which came in the form of a wooden Nardi 330

I polished it up and put it in the car.


The car now looked like this


...But I knew it needed something and its what you guys have been waiting on. I picked up some Racelands (I know, I know :fp:) and this is how the car sits right now 12" hub to fender


I know I've left some stuff out but this takes care of most of the big stuff that's happened in my two years of ownership of this beautiful little car. My only immediate plans right now are to get new wheels and maybe go lower but for now I couldn't be happier. So got my first miata not too long ago, 95 montego w/89k on the odo and bone stock. I believe it's the PEP with AC, cruise, PS, PW, PM, and hopefully means a Torsen LSD. This is a DD and I'm a college student so I'm still debating whether to put a lot of money into it, ie rims, roll bar, suspension. So far, all I've done are things to keep the car running right. Changed the radiator because it was the OE, valve cover gasket cuz it was leaking, changed diff and tranny fluids. So I guess you wouldn't call this a build thread, more like an online album w/descriptions and comments from fellow enthusiasts. Coming up in the near future, I'm thinking of repainting the rims white, they're silver and rough looking and I think white would probably look good on the montego.

Also did the Randall intake. Car sounds awesome and less hesitation during acceleration, I'm happy. I made a write-up for this also so if anyone needs the exact dimensions I used for the pieces, send me a PM, it'll save you a lot of time trying to fit and cut things to length.

Also, the rain rail was leaking into the trunk. Instead of buying a new one and having to deal with rivets and all that junk, I did the Gonzorail instead. Works awesome, no more trunk aquarium!!

When i first got it, i started off with suspension, exhaust and intake however a buddy of mine was selling his turbo kit so i had to jump on it. Like an ass, i bought the kit, installed it and went with a cheap F1 puck clutch from eBay (flame away) and paid the price. Slipping clutch and a 200rpm higher red line caused be to put 6 holes in the motor. Here are some pics from when i bought to when i blew the motor..

Picked up this miata in early april. It's a 1997, pretty much basic when I got it.

In terms of modifications, I have so far done FM Vmaxx coils dropped to 12.4 front (driver's slightly higher) and 12.8 rear. Also got some black 14x7 Enkei RPF1's with Falken Azenis tires. Latest is a custom exhaust, Aero resonator with Aero 2540i muffler/tip.

The exhaust isn't unbearable, but definitely loud as f***. Idle and low rpm driving sounds like a bloody catless Sti. Probably going to get another small res. welded up in place of the stock p.o.s. resonator.
