Default CR@TG '09 Oh god we're doing it again

Pack the booze and call the sitter! Or was it pack the sitter and call the booze... no wait that doesn't work...

It's time for CR@TG '09!!!!

yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

That's right, folks. CR@TG is preparing to descend upon the gap for it's THIRD consecutive year. For those new to this event, here's a quick breakdown:

Where: Fontana Village
When: November 6-8
  • No schedule
  • Lots of fun
  • Run the Dragon
  • Golf carts
  • Don't wreck anything (including yourself)
  • Spend time with other forum members and enjoy the beer swap
Sound good? Excellent.

The event will be taking place at Fontana Village.

Swingdancr has taken care of the lodging this year, so we're sure to be together. Here are all the details you need to know to book your cabin for the weekend:

We have 5 cabins reserved around the trout pond for the nights of November 6th and 7th. I've gotten us a discounted rate of $99.00 a night, but that is only good on cabins booked by October 1st. There is a one night deposit due at the time of booking.

Be sure to tell them you are with ClubRoadster in order to get this rate and be placed in our cabin commune. If you don't you'll pay more and get stuck somewhere across campus.

The cabins have 2 Bedrooms(1 Full/2 Twin Beds) 1 Bath, Central Heat & Air, Basic Cable TV & Phone. Kitchen Utensils, Bed Linens and Towels are provided.

We encourage people to bunk up because it not only reduces our footprint on fontana, but it makes everything cheaper. Especially when your $200 tab is split 5 ways.

There are a few things we like to do every year, but participation is up to you:

Friday night: Midnight run of the Dragon and beer swap (in that order)

Part of being at the Gap is running the Dragon. There is typically very little traffic at that time, and it's a fun experience whether you're a seasoned veteran or wet behind the ears novice. Just don't push it too hard, i'm not pulling your ass out of a ditch because you hot dogged it to much.

Have a local brew or personal favorite? Bring some extra along! We love obscure and unique beers almost more than our miatas and welcome the chance to try something new and tasty.

Saturday afternoon: Dam photo

At some point on saturday we get together and get a group photo at the Fontana Dam. It's a good location with lots of room for everyone to get together.

Sunday afternoon: GTFO

We've all got work to get back to, I know, it sucks, but how else can you fund events like this? Feel free to hang around and sample some of the local eateries on your way out. The Nantahala Center, Crossroads of Time store and similar businesses need your support now more than ever, so don't be afraid to "get lost" on a different road and try something new.

Now then, here's what I need from everyone:

PM Me when you make your reservations, if we need more cabins I need to know ASAP. Also PM me who you are staying with so we can have a count of everyone attending. We're going to try and get shirts made this time around and need to get a head count to get the cost set.

Feel free to ask questions, and hope to see you there!

Oh, BTW... when you call to make your reservations, you need to tell them you're with ClubRoadster or with CR@TG to get the discounted rate.

As a word of warning to all of you who might be booking a cabin:

You'll get a message of "We can't give you your cabin number as they aren't assigned until check in and we can't guarantee that you'll be around the trout pond."

The reason they do that is to cover their ass. There are a total of 11 Laurel cabins, 10 are around the trout pond and we have 6 of them blocked. They don't give out cabin numbers in case something happens and one of the cabins isn't rentable for some reason (tree through the roof, plumbing mishap, fire, etc). The only reason that they wouldn't be able to get all of us around the trout pond is in case the other 9 cabins around it are booked already. Given that we have 6 blocked and it is in November, those chances are slim, but they say that just in case.

So who has a cabin already booked?

Alright, I'm planning on making it this year dammit. I need to know if someone will spare me some floor space, I could possibly throw in some extra cash if needed around then.

Just another sad reminder to take is safe and slow in November. Keep the party in the cabin at night and off the roads.

That's a real shame. We all like to go there to have fun and whenever someone crashes and gets hurt or dies it's unfortunate and I send my deepest sympathies to all who have been effected. It's fun to zoom through the corners whether in a car or on a bike but it is also a great responsibility. The road punishes mistakes severely. There is a reason they call it the dragon.

I can understand why the injured Solstice driver's wife is feeling so angry. Anger is one of the classic stages of grieving. I can only hope that with time and healing she'll change her mind instead of lumping us all together into the same group of "douchebags" (her words). The wife was also upset at the commentary on dealsgap.com

Lack of experience and operating over ones head is typical around here, and its frustrating to see. In fact on Friday there was some young man that rolled into the parking lot with flip flops, shorts and a helmet with no strap. Im starting to see the bigger picture, and its scary. Too many stupid people. Im sure I will get torn up for that statement and all I will say to that is bring it on. Ever seen the movie Idiocracy ?? there is some truth to it..... or thats how I see it.
Well, I have agree that lack of experience and driving beyond the driver's or the vehicle's capability is all too common. However, not all people pushing through the corners are stupid. Sometimes mistakes just happen. I know I've had my fair share of "moments" but have always been fortunate enough to recover without negative consequences. Not everyone is so lucky.

So just remember to respect the road and your fellow motorists and ride/drive within your means. The most important thing about coming up to these wonderful mountains is to be able to drive yourself home safely in your own vehicle so that you can come back another time to do it all over again.

It turns out the Solstice crash was on 28 about 1/8th mile from the crossroads of time. That still doesn't change my opinion stated previously. I think there have been at least 3 deaths on 28 this year. Not surprising as you can gain a lot more speed in between corners and some of them are really tight decreasing radius turns that can catch you off-guard if you're not careful.

Well, still a shitty situation that happened, but I'm still looking forwaard to going out and having a good time. I'm not going to push the car since I'm not familiar with deal's gap, so anyone who just cruises the dragon, let me know as I'll follow a bunch of times

still in need of floor space
